Photos from BAPM 2009 - San Francisco Bay Area Prototype Modelers Meet
Hello All,
It was a blast to see everyone and to see all the wonderful models on display yesterday at the 2009 San Francisco Bay Area Prototype Modeler's Meet.
Thanks to all of you who took the time to come on out - even from as far as Oregon and Southern California to take part.
Our Thanks to our sponsors and skilled clinicians for helping us put on a wonderful show and for your generous support of this meet. Our Raffle contest was a smashing success as well. Thanks to each and every one of you.

What's the best way to paint the SP Bloody Nose?
What is the best way to go about paiting the SP bloody nose? (HO scale) Some use decals while others make a stencil from the decal and paint the stripes in. Do you paint the front of the nose, then add the decal or is it the other way around?
I would really appreciate any help (pictures would be great) with this SP distinctive feature.

What Is It? - Guess and Win a $100 Gift Certificate from Fast Tracks!
Fast Tracks will of course be attending this years National Train Show in in Hartford, Connecticut on July 10-12, 2009. I plan on displaying the Bronx Terminal in all of its operational glory (albeit, not yet finished). It should be a real treat, so be sure to stop by and have a look!
We are also planning on releasing a brand new line of money saving products that we think many modelers will find quite useful. We are not ready to reveal any details just yet, but here is a picture of the main product:

Who's going to Hartford?
So who on here is going to be in Hartford at the NMRA Convention July 5-12? Anybody on here giving a clinic at Hartford?
Let us know and maybe we'll need to make sure and watch for you!

Why do we build layouts?
I've found this subject very wide, as I've try several time to explain my feeling to non-RR modelers.
Why do we build layouts ?
I've collected here some ( and sure not all ) reasons that range from my engineering menthality to my creative and social side:
Team tracks - until when?
I saw someone mention that team tracks were a feature of the steam era, and got worried since I included two such on my 1958 trackplan. Should I change my plan?

Miles vs Smiles (Scale Miles)
This is more for HO but applies to all Scales

NEW: SP themed layout list
This is not really new, but as is one of my last ideas and despite is limited to the Southern Pacific fans.... well : we go.... A new web site was born!
I'm compiling a list of layouts that are themed on the Espee ( Southern Pacific ).
Operating Open Hopper Cars
I'm building a small HO layout for my sons (ages 5 and 6) and thought about adding some additional operational features that would be, more or less, age appropriate.
I recall from my childhood that Tyco offered an "operating" 2-bay open hopper car that would suit my purposes very nicely. Although I've been able to find some of the original Tyco versions on e-bay, I wondered if any other (current) manufacturers offered similar products.
Thanks in advance,
Chris
