Modeling general discussion

Is there an ideal 3' narrow gauge modeling scale?
Just because I don't feel like doing anything more productive at the moment...
Ring Engineering's RailPro and Canada, eh!
I've contacted Tim Ring from Ring Engineering and I was quite disappointed to find out that RailPro is ONLY intended for the US modelers marketplace.
Bummer……………………………Eh!
Please note that Ring Engineering's RailPro model train control system is not certified and does not comply for importation to Canadian or foreign markets. It is only certified for the US market.
Merit of Modular layouts?
This will, in all likelihood, be a controversial subject but I question the merit of modular layouts for public displays and hobby advancement. I have recently seen four large modular layouts open to the public. All layouts had forms of animation, signalling, sound equipped locomotives and extensive rolling stock. In all instances I have been disappointed. I note the following:
RESISTANCE SOLDERING HELP
Gents, I'm starting over again after a 57 year layoff. I'd like to hear from anyone here that has had some “hands on” experience with resistance soldering. It would be for track and wiring work. Delicate tasks are not very easy for me anymore and the less time I have to hold anything steady the better. American Beauty and Hotip appear to be the major brands, both of which are pretty pricey. I know that there are a few fellows that have built their own equipment but that's not for me, but I'd appreciate

Where did my post go??
Ok, I am confused. I just looked at the posting guidelines and did not see anything prohibiting a member from posting that they have items for sale. Is this a violation of the guidelines? If not, where did my post go? If it is a violation then I would like to request a "Swap Meet" area of the site where members can notify each other when they have things for sale.
L&N Railroad
Folks,
Who is using the L&N as a layout? I am thinking of doing L&Ns Louisville yard. Any thoughts on this.
thanks,
Ken

1:1 Locomotive Overhaul
I happened upon this show, "Break It Down" on the NGCP network about taking a GP9 and rebuilding it using the latest "green" technology. It was very interesting. The episode was called "Locomotive Overhaul". Apparently this company rebuilds old locomotives. Look for it, you might enjoy it.

JMRI Noob
Hi all.
I am currently venturing into the realms of DCC and Cbus. I am planning on interfacing my PC to the CBUS via USB. The issue im having is that the JMRI documentation makes my head want to explode.
Im looking for an idiots guide to getting started with JMRI. I want to use JMRI to generate CBUS commands to activate functions, such as driving relays.
Can anyone help with the JMRI side of things?
If it matters, im using all MERG hardware.

JV Models Craftsman Kits
Hey guys,
I'm considering buying a structure kit made by JV Models. I understand that the kit is intended for experienced modelers.
Can anyone speak from experience about the overall quality of JV Models kits? Are the instructions detailed and easy to understand? Any pitfalls to beware of? Any tips or advice?
Thanks in advance!
Kevin
