Recent photos from Sweethome Alabama

I put the layout back up over New Year, so I thought I'd take some new photos showing areas which are not normally seen from the front of the layout. The subjects are an Intermountain U18B and an Athearn CF7, as yet unweathered or sound-fitted.

An idea on how to make a touch screen work as a throttle

I posted this in another forum, and thought it might be interesting to spark some discussion here as well.  Some of you know that I am not favorably inclined toward using a touch screen device as a throttle.  The problem is that there are times I need to look at the train, not the throttle, but there's no way to find the various controls without looking at them.

Then I had an idea...

Debating whether to have lights over staging yard levels

There will be lighting from the aisles for all of the decks, but for the Staging Levels, I have been considering not using light-clear panels and lights for above the two decks for staging (lower and upper decks) and just leave it up to the aisle lights to provide enough light to see the trains.  Has anyone done this?  Was it a success, or if given a chance, would you redo it and add lights to provide illumination of the staging yard deck.

What LED's to use for what?

I wonder what LED's are used for what purpose and where to find them. When do you use resistors with LED's? I guess I want people to spill their guts on the use of LED's. I saw the thred on fiber optics and have ordered the sample package of fiber. (Thanks Ed for starting that thread!!!)

ALPS printing needed

I'm looking for someone who has an ALPS printer (for white ink printing) and who would be willing to print some water transfer decals for me. I am willing to pay a reasonable amount for materials and your service of course.

My email is kengoudsward at telus.net

Thanks,

Ken

For those who have blogs outside of MRH, what service are you using?

I would like to have a blog to post updates of my layout, but have a bit more control over what is posted than what is available on MRH.  I notice several of you have your own blogs, and was wondering how much does it cost or if it's free, how much knowledge does one need of HTML programming?  I would like to find something that is inexpensive (free if possible), but easy and simple to use, including posting photos.  I thought MRH would be a good place, but unfortunately that did not turn out so well and became a headache for me, so I would like to have something simil

White or Black - what color to use for ceiling grid over layout benchwork

I plan on attaching ceiling grid angle to the front and back of each module to hold up a clear acrylic ceiling clear panel and am debating what color to use.  If it is going to be white, then I can just install it now, but if I will choose black, I would rather paint it black now before installing it.  I plan on painting the underside of the benchwork and subroadbed (Foam-board) white to better reflect the light from the CFL bulbs.  So my inclination is to stick with white.  However, the front fascia panel is going to be black, so should the ceiling grid be painted to
