Modeling general discussion
Starting a Blog
I have searched for a step by step on creating and publishing a blog at MRH. If it's there I can't find it. Is there such and animal? I'm starting again in model railroading and thought I'd share my errors.
advice appreciated.

Hold That Throttle!
While shopping for something else, I ran across a kit of magnetic brackets meant for holding phones and tablets to the dashboard of a car. Since I use a mini-tablet for a control panel I bought one for experimentation.
A small, adhesive-backed metal plate attaches to the back of the tablet. The bracket has a strong magnet that holds the metal plate. This bracket has a tilt-swivel head and attaches to the layout with a suction cup.
Internet Archive Audio Files
In addition to locomotive and scenic atmospheric sounds (harbor recordings) to enhance my layout, I have recently found enjoyment in playing period music and old radio broadcasts from the 1930s and 1940s. These are particularly good for solo operating sessions, while modeling, or just letting the trains run loops.

Hello fellow Model Railroaders!
Seeking Bachmann Spectrum 1st release 4-6-0
I am searching for a Bachmann Spectrum first release 4-6-0 HO-scale steam locomotive. I don't care what railroad, though I prefer undecorated. If you have one that you would part with please contact me. If you know of someone or some place I could get one please contact me.
Thanks,

Caricature vs Scale Model.
i was ready a thread just now that got me thanking. In many ways our model layouts and our models themselves are as much caricature as they are accurate scale models.

New WPF for 12-18 through 12-24
Just in case people start wondering why one isn't started or where this week's is, the little nugget got hidden on the MRH Website Discussion page again. http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/31911
Corrugated steel siding
Considering that I model mining railroads, and mine buildings are often covered in corrugated siding and roofing, I figure I may need a bunch of this stuff. I've used heavy duty aluminum foil before rubbed against a piece of computer ribbon cable. It worked ok, but slow and a bit of a pain in the rear. My thought was to use the adhesive foil tape used for ductwork, and create a method for adding corrugations. So I came up with this:

Out-of-the-box reliable N Scale turnouts???
With my new layout, I want more reliable running, and so I have been planning on powered frogs and not counting on point rail contact for power to the closure rails. I am in n scale, and my track from the last layout is all Peco. So this weekend I started working on the modifications to my Electrofrog turnouts:
1) Removing spring since I will use tortoise slow motion switch machines
2) Cutting gaps between the closure rails and the frog (I believe some Electrofrogs come with the gap already present, but mine do not have the gaps cut)
