Modeling general discussion
Labeling conventions for directions
Is there any convention on how directions labels should be noted? What do you use for direction (if anything)?
I'm talking about compass points (N, S, E, W) as they relate to the movement of trains around the layout.
I assume layouts based on real prototypes (especially point to point) would probably use the geographic directions. But what of continuous loop designs that fold back on themselves?
What Are you Modeling?
I am new to this site, but I have asked this question on Model Railroader website.
My railroad is a fictional Class I Railroad, based in Evans (ghost town in reality), Illinois. It stretches coast to coast as well as the gulf Coast. Since I have a limited amount of space, I am modeling a compress branch line along the railroad line. The branchline at any time has about 22 diesel and 7 (3 are switchers) operating on the line to service the railroad customers:
-Quarry
-EAF mini steel mill

Frank, I don't know where you have gotten to, but I figured I would start WPF for now. I hope you don't mind.
A Pennsy Duplex hisses and rumbles up to Seneca Station on the afternoon commute.

Building the Bronx Terminal Freight house.
That geometrical nightmare....
Next up in the construction of the layout is a project I have been putting off for some time, the "round" freight house. Not really round, its a 29 side nightmare.

Anyone familiar with Cream City turnouts?
Has anyone purchased turnouts from Cream City? Wondering if they're good and if they're still in business. Their website seems disabled.

A puzzle..........................
................Does anyone know what the difference is between these two rails from ME as listed on the Bill's Trains website?
MIC 17-100 sp non-weathered
MIC 17-100 non-weathered
It says the sp non-weathered is special order and as the other is in stock, I'm guessing it's different somehow.

Modern paper/cardstock structures
As some of you know, I am working on a $500 budget layout, and right now, and I am down to $31, with more to disappear soon.

Airbrush help
Arg, I set it all up and then it failed.
Ok, airbrush, Badger Model 200.1 (vintage 1976), compressor with auto pressure.
Paint, Accuflex water based, new out of bottle.
Replaced with new crown regulator this time.
Screen in paint to strain it.
Started out with a thin spray and then stopped picking up color. Switched to water, and couldn't get it to even pick up water. Adjusted the screw on the pin for opening up color, no go.
Whole assembly disassembled and soaking now.
