Rapido's Railcrew HO switch machines - any comments from those who have used them?

Hi, I am planning a new layout in HOn3 and am thinking about track and switches. I was intrigued by Rapido's RailCrew switch machines with integral operating switch stands, and such a machine would be perfect for surface install. I plan to use a 4" base of extruded polystyrene foam extensively on my new layout, so below the table mounting is out...I plan to have a flat surface on the bottom of my modules.

I am curious if any of you have experience with these, and could share your comments...

Headlights--electric vs Kerosene?

Does anyone know whan electric lights started coming in for locomotives, and when a kerosene light would have been almost unheard-of?  I'm assuming that logging lines (with their limited budgets) would have retrofitted electric lights much later than main line steam.

Manually Activated RR Crossing (?)

I am looking for the proper, and simplistic, way to install a manually activated RR crossing switch. What I have in mind is a simple toggle or push button to manually activate my railroad crossing signal (cross buck lights). I recall a forum member did something familiar, however I can't remember what he did.

What's a 'crazy' decision you've made in the hobby, and what was the result?

Looking at my layout (shelf layout in sections, in a rented room) I'd always said to myself it wasn't worth trying to do ballasting or other scenic work, bearing in mind it may all have to be broken up and moved at some point - I'd restrict myself to structure building and self-contained scenes on bare boards

What happened to the controls I was using earlier for posting?

I used to have a series of boxes to choose from on top of the area I type in. Now the menu seems to be gone and the text is different. How do I get that stuff back or did the website just change?

Weekly Photo Fun - August 21th to August 27th, 2015

Great work everyone last week!  Time to start of this week's photo thread!

As always, we get as much out of your in-process photos as we do the highly polished "all done" shots!

Dallas area train show September

Plano TX fall train show

I have copied and pasted a bit of news from the council on our September show for any that are interested. I have also included a link to the home page for the council of clubs that puts the shows together. There will be another show over the winter as well.

Brick Roller

I saw this on Shapeways and thought I'd post it here. Very clever. There is a short video at the bottom.

I'm not affiliated with the seller or the product. Just thought it was a neat item.

Seven-geep Permanente Local

My friend Rob Mallett and I had fun running this train yesterday.  The Permanente Local featured strings of loaded coal gondolas inbound to the cement plant, and occasionally as many locomotives as depicted here.

Thanks for looking.
