Modeling general discussion

Elliot Janofsky RIP

Dr. Elliott Janofsky was a fellow modeller with interests in Rail marine themes. He was a charter member of Rail Marine Information Group. Elliot was a speaker at some of the  rail marine special interests group of modelers. He was building a U shape layout in HO. The layout is the Jay Street Connecting railroad based firmly on historical research. His articles on some of the structures appear in print. He is best known for his scratchbuilt float bridge.

The secret to keeping the Allagash back in the 80s?

Mike plays with the date-time continuum. Checked my MRH Allagash calendar today. It's 3/20 all over again!

Indy NMRA Convention Layout Tours

Hello,

I have not been to a National Convention in awhile.  I am thinking of getting up to Indy this year.

I have looked on the website about layout tours and there is not much detail listed.

My question is, how to these tours usually work?  Can I self drive around using a map or something?

Or are they via bus tours?

Always fun to see nice layouts.

Thank you.

Selling Personal Items?

Howdy All,

It's been a long time since I've been on these model railroad forums because of a stroke I suffered some time back so forgive me if I'm in the wrong area or the wrong website but, I have a new BLI DCC w/Sound Steam Locomotive for sale and I can't find where to post it so, this is why I've posted this here?  If I'm on the wrong forum I do apologize however, if I'm in the right place could someone please direct me as to where I want to be to post my item for sale?  Thanks so much, Bo aka Texas Hi-Railer.

Tacky spray paint

I use rattle cans for my painting (please, no "get an airbrush" lectures). I'm working a project in which I applied the first color using Tamiya paint. After a couple of days, I masked off some areas and applied a second color using Rustoleum. It's been sitting in my kitchen for 11 hours now, and the paint is still tacky. I'm concerned that I have a paint fail on my hands. Will I be in trouble if I just seal in the tacky with a coat of Dullcoat?

Found: Mendocino Coast Model Railroad and Historical Society

Most of us (especially in the U.S. west coast region) have heard of the "Skunk Train". The Skunk Train, also known as the California Western Railroad (a part of the Sierra Railroad Corporation) has both scenic excursion and commercial freight operations). The Skunk Train operates between Fort Bragg CA and Willits CA. A link to the Skunk Train web site:

MRH + L&N + Train Show = A good time!

Today I attended the H.B. Plant Historical Society's annual train show sporting my MRH shirt and L&N hat.  The show was at a new location this year and great as ever.  I scored and L&N gon, a nice boxcar and a few other goodies.  A big thanks to everyone involved in putting on the show!

How do you get model chain to look rusty?

I'm curious what others do?   I find paint leaves it stiff and the holes clogged.  Very thin washes don't seem to cover and chalk rubs off.  What am I missing?

Thanks,

Peter
