Loksound Full Throttle

I have yet to install the decoder I ordered several weeks ago. Looks like I am going need the decoder programmer.

I just watched the video from Loksound. New Full Throttle Features.

Wow! I am pretty excited about this. And I don't even understand it all but I do get the idea of a lash up pulling a hill and even though the engines are roaring and smoking away, the train is barely moving. I like it! It just keeps getting better.

Stripping paint from metal.

I have a brass and white metal kit locomotive that was assembled using CA. It was painted with old formula Floquil. I want to strip it. I know Acetone removes CA, how will lacquer thinner react with the CA? Any danger of the locomotive falling apart?

Weekly Photo Fun - April 22nd to April 28th, 2016

Time to start of this week's photo thread!

As always, we get as much out of your in-process photos as we do the highly polished "all done" shots!

Operating sessions.

I know nothing about the formal logistics of hosting an operating session, as my layout is small, an "L" shaped dog bone for a continuous run of about 50', with a yard, and trans load area, and 4 more industries on a spur, so it's not made for operating sessions with more than I person.

My question is, after watching some videos in TMTV, it seems that people who join in on sessions have to pay for the privilege.  Is this the norm?  Is the cost totally the discretion of the host? And if so, about how much does it cost?

Thanks,

Railpro sound questions?

Hi All, Still trying to decide if I want to try Railpro for my S layout. Todays question is about the sound modules. I've heard people say they are not as sweet sounding as Lok sound or Tsunamis but I'd guess they sound good enough for me , what I'm wondering though is how they react to dead spots on the track. Do they drop sound comparable to a DCC decoder or do they handle the tiny power gaps better? Can anyone tell any substantial difference in this respect?

Respirator Filter Working Life

Can anyone advise what the working life of a respirator filter should be?   I have bought a 3M respirator with their 6000 series organic filter cartridges.  But I can't figure out how long they will be good for. There is a calculator on 3M's website, but to use it you have to do air sampling and figure out the PPM of the contaminants; I haven't got the least idea what values to enter.

The Saga of Brian Pate's KMR. Phase 3 is now complete

Well, from a modelling perspective, this project is now over.  Brian Pate's brilliant HOn3 layout, the Klondike Mines Railway, was successfully installed in Dawson City Yukon over the last week, 3000 km north of Vancouver, and awaits the throngs of tourists who visit this gold rush town each year. (Between 35,000 to 40,000 are expected to see Brian's layout each season).

How did you get into Model railroading?

This ought to be fun.  I'll start.  When I was a teenager, my younger brother got a train set for Christmas.  So, we started planning a layout with my Dad.  My Dad had 2 engines of his own, 1 from his boyhood and 1 that belonged to his father.  My mother's father had a Lionel setup in the basement that we went to see when we visited.

Allagash - pole yard complete new pics

Hey guys,

A couple of weeks ago I posted images of the new Andover, with a "before" image and then pics of the new area.

Around the bend from Anodover was the quarry, subject of Allagash Scenery Modeling Outside the Box V2. Anyway, the quarry was torn out as well. I know...ouch! In its place is a pole yard that I just completed. This is an industry that rarely gets modeled, so I wanted to give it a try.

How to blacken chain

I have some Builders In Scale 40 Links Per Inch chain. It appears to be a copper or brass color. I am wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to blacken it, other than painting.
