Need ideas for recreating trackage for backdrop
There are a few scenes where there will be trackage crossing over the mainline perpendicular to the aisle and backdrop, and therefore the track will end up going into the backdrop. And in addition, some of these scenes will be attempts to recreate what it looked like in 1953. The problem is many of the locations that had trackage, no longer does. Though the right of way is somewhat visible, the trackage has been ripped out and the right of way has deteriorated. So my question is, how does one recreate these scenes so the trackage appears to continue once t

Multi-Deck Level Layout - Benchwork thickness and placement of Car-Card Boxes...
For those who have and/or operate on multi-deck model railroads I have some questions.
1) For those businesses and industries served by the railroad that are on the upper deck(s), do you place the car-card boxes on the deck benchwork they are on,or are they on the lowest deck and labeled for the town above.
2) If they are located on the upper-decks with the actual town, do you worry about the fascia height (which is in part dictated by the thickness of the benchwork) so that the top of the car card does not protrude above the top of the fascia.

Industries served by rail...
I'm continuing to evolve my track plan and will post the whole thing in the next couple of days. It will have to be a PDF to keep the granularity and be able to zoom in on the details.

Anyone attending the Narrow Gauge Convention this week? I plan on attending at least one day of it.

Chainsaw
Okay - I am going to be forced to ask another dumb question.
What is a "chainsaw"? And please don't tell me it is a prop used in a series of movies that usually have the word Texas in the title.
I have seen several references to "chainsaw" on this site and know it has something to do with layouts - but as a relative newbe to model railroading - I must confess my ignorance.
Thanks

Newb question - Old Atlas and Athearn locos detailing advice
Hello everyone,
Straight to the point...
I have 3 old Atlas locos (GP38-2, GP40-2) and an Athearn blue box (GP35) that I would like to upgrade the details on. I'm mainly looking to upgrade the trucks (especially on the Athearn) and I was wondering if it was possible to do so. The Athearn truck frame is rivetted to the truck and the Atlas frames are in 1 piece. I'd also like to change the fans. Would the fans from newer Atlas locos (GP38-2, GP40-2) be a direct fit (after removing the old ones that is)?
