Operation and maintenance

eye test

I came across this idea in an Hon3 list. I saw a picture and I had to build one for myself.

You need them for your op sessions.

Video #6 Operations on the Siskiyou

It is my understanding that Video # 6 on operations will not be made available for sale but rather will be posted in installments on the magaizine .  Is this true and if so when would we expect to see it come out?

Kato's 8.5 inch radius in N Scale

Has anyone used Kato's 8.5 Inch Radius curves in N Scale?  How was the results? What kind of locomotive can negotiate this tight curve?  I'm building a coffee table layout and planning to use a Kato NW2 loco.

Track warrant Model Railcast show...

Ryan, Byron, Tim,

I'm listening to Model Railcast show #76 ( http://modelrailcast.com/ ) in which Byron is talking at length about track warrant control and getting started operating.

Great job you guys! Way cool.

printable waybill's and car card's

would it be posible to post a pdf file or something like that of a printable waybill and car card?

Another Waybill Question

I'm in the the process of filling out waybills for my next op session.  Most of them are pretty straightforward; however, I've encountered a scenario that has me somewhat baffled.

Yard Tracks: Two Slots or Three?

I'm setting up my layout to use car cards and waybills for my op sessions.  Each 'industry' track [i.e. where cars are either loaded or unloaded] has 3 card slots: one for setouts, one for 'holds', and one for pickups.  But I'm not sure what to do about my yard tracks: Do I also need 3 slots for each of those, or can I get by with 2 (setout & pickup)?

Enquiring minds need to know...

Do you hold your cars?

Yes - do you?

With a carcard/waybill system it's obviously easier not to hold - just to flip the waybills if the car is spotted correctly at the end of the session. When it's time for the next operating night, the car start it's next journey. Almost all the cars on the industry tracks can be pulled and replaced with new ones.

Operations Design Elements and the ETT

Hi,

One thing I have been thinking a lot about lately is how to modfiy operatons on a prototype based layout to provide Model railroad based fun! On a recent Model Railcast show Marty McGuirk talked about taking an employee timetable (ETT) and filling it out with additional trains to provide more operating enjoyment. This was something I was planning to do to.. and something  I am sure many of us have done.
