Locos and rolling stock
Painting an Overland Models Austin Western Side Dump car
At the Supertrain show in Calgary Alberta last weekend I picked up an OMI Austin Western Side Dump car for a very good price. It is perfect for my prototype as both it (Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting) as well as Canadian National operated these types of cars.
A Few Engines Going East
These were just outside of Midland Texas. It was not a long train, guess it was mostly to move engines.

New Atlas nscale S2
Wondering if a non sound decoder can be easily installed in the DC version of this new S2. Would like to have one to run on my Surroundtraxx layout.

New Atlas N-Scale S-2
Received my new Atlas N-Scale S-2 this weekend and was completely blown away. This is the first sound equipped N-scale locomotive I have purchased and the quality is outstanding. I am a little apprehensive about taking the body shell off of the chassis to repaint for my home railroad. See short video below and a link to my review at my blog.
Max Gray challenger still pounding the rails
checked out my Max Gray DRGW L105 at our club yesterday and as advertised she ran Great! Not bad for a 53 yr old lady eh'
BLI sound decoder behavior
I have a C30-7 (Broadway Limited) and a SW1500 (Broadway Limited), both with Paragon 2 sound decoder. Interesting that they behave a little different.
The SW 1500 first starts to move and than the motor sound revs up. I read the manual up and down but I couldn't find a CV to change this, so that first the motor sound revs up and than the loco starts to move as the C30-7 does.
Livery on custom locos and rolling stock
Good day everyone,
I am looking at possibly doing some custom locomotives and rolling stock for a fictitious railroad / company. The painting should be ok - I have an airbrush, I just need to practice a bit. I am however concerned about the livery. The locos and rolling stock that one buys, seem to have the livery (names, logos, etc) painted on, which does not give you that "edging" (for the lack of a better word) that decals does. It just looks much sharper.
Questions on athhearn blue box switcher locos
I have a couple questions regarding vintage athhearn blu box locos
these particular ones are switchers of varies body types but the chassis and gear drive setups seems to be of two types regardless of body shell. I am guessing one types is older than the other.
one type has an aluminum (I think) flywheel and a "split" gearbox which comes apart down the centreline and whose "truck details" are integrated,
Can you suggest passenger rolling stock for these locomotives? (N scale)
Sorry to do another 'knowledge begging' post in as many days, but I'm suddenly in a position to include passenger services since my train space just got 3X bigger (I am blessed), and I was wondering if you folks could advise on what's available to run with these locos (or what I need to convert, I'm open to this).
I have:
