Scenery and structures
Chimney vent
I am working on a Model of the QN cabin at Quinnimont WV on the C&O. The kit is an old one from MPP (HO scale). After a,lot of research I determined that two of the chimneys had metal pipes extending them with segments and on top of the pipe was a cone shaped cap that looks like a less pointed dunce cap.
I have looked at a lot of detail part manufacturers but I can't seam to find this detail in HO scale. Anyone know who makes this part?

Need help with roof suggestions for this roundhouse
I need some advice.
I kitbashed / scratchbashed this roundhouse from four of the older Walthers three-stall kits. The original section of the house was 85-feet long and had the raised clerestory section. The added on section which is 105-feet long is also six stalls but has a flat roof with monitors that went lengthwise down each paralleling track.

Railroad Crossing Scene Tutorial
Hello fellow model railroaders
As a few of you know I had been working on a YouTube video about making a railroad crossing scene… The good news is I finally finished it and you can watch it using the link below.
The video is a tutorial style video that shows how the scene was built every step of the way. There are just a couple of things I did on the diorama that weren’t shown in the video. I unintentionally forgot to press the record button on the camera! But I’ll mention them here.
Another foam post, carving?
I spent most of the wee hours watching videos and searching posts and I really can't figure out if Foamular 150 is preferred or shunned for carving rock faces? I am about to dive in with both feet and what I have on hand is 250. I understand the structural strength of 250 is preferred for modules which get a lot of moves and abuse. Since 150 is less dense, is there a loss of detail? I can get both but the 250 only comes in 2by8 ft sheets at my local home deposit. And I bought the last sheet in spite of the damage from the strapping used to bundle them together.

Top Secret Project - Scratchbuiilding a Structure for a gift - Need to ask questions
I want to scratchbuild a structure for a friend, and I wish it to be a surprise so I can not tell you any specifics as to what it is, so I will need to speak in general terms. After I am done presenting it to my friend, I will gladly share detailed photos and share what it is nine months from now.
I will need ot use my Laser, and many questions will revolve around that. I also have several modeling questions which I will need help with. So here we go.
Good by-product of a necessary evil . . .
The leaves are falling fast in the mid-Atlantic, and I mowed while they still aren't too deep to mulch. In the process, my mower deck accumulated a nice pile of pulverized dead leaves - looks like perfect stuff for dead-of-winter ground cover to me! (And the price is right! Next week I might even be looking FORWARD to mowing!)
TV antennas?
Anyone who was a kid in the 50's probably remembers the forest of TV antennas in many neighborhoods, after a typical southerly winter gale we'd walk around counting how many were bent over :>) . So I'm wondering how folks modeling the 50's deal with them in photo backdrops? It's impossible to go out and take of photo of them now so do they find old photos or do they add them to current photos with photo shop, or ?
License plates: How to?
What to do to get license plates on your cars and trucks? Are there any decals?

Matte-Medium + Surfactants: Which ones?
I was experimenting with gluing my non-sanded grouts that I use for dirt and some ground foams and tried using some Woodland Scenics' scenic cement, and I was really impressed with its performance. The scenic cement didn't discolor my grout (i.e., it didn't darken the color), and everything sealed up nicely with no loose grout powder remaining.

Your Earth Color Preference
I am curious as to what color(s) MRH modelers like to use for earth color.
Do you try to match the prototype locale?
or
Do you use a generic earth color?
I usually try to match the earth color to the prototype, but have found some colors, like the color of Missouri red clay, look very unrealistic when used on the layout.
