Mapping function keys on a Digitrax DN163 Mobile Decoder
I want to use the function outputs on a Digitrax DN163 Mobile Decoder to turn on and off lights.
Using the "Digitrax Function Remapping" table (http://www.digitrax.com/ftp/remap.pdf), F1 CV35, F2 CV36 and F3 CV37 have a value of "4" for the green function lead and "8" for the violet function lead.
A NCE Power Cab is used to set the CV values: CV35 = 4 for the green lead and CV36=8 for the violet lead. I get no response when the "1" or "2" are pressed.

Buying Rail
I need to order some code 70 rail, wood ties and spikes. Where would you recommend making the purchase(s)? I tried looking for some sponsors of the magazine, but did not find much except for Fast Tracks, and were out of the rail and ties.
Thanks so much!

Tsunami 750 decoder overheating
Hi.
I bought from a outlet in Denver and installed a Tsunami 750 sound decoder for a GE Turbine in my Athearn Veranda turbine this weekend. I ran it and I am impressed with the sound. However, it overheats and shuts down in a few minutes.
I did a web search and this overheating seems to be a common problem. Solutions include the need to place a metal plate or metal backing to help absorb the heat.
Hand-laying outdoor track "O" scale.
I want to create an "O" scale garden railroad and have questions about hand-laying track. Does anyone have any recommendations for the track and ties? Also any suggestions for roadbed.
To avoid electrical problems I will be going to battery operated trains and radio control.
I have been surfing the net for ideas but there are almost as many opinions as people and some are contradictory. I live in Connecticut so the weather changes from one season to another can be dramatic.

Soundtraxx Question and Suggestion for Product Enhancement
Some time ago, I bought 2 Blueline Alco RSD15s a-la Missabe. I was frustrated with the volume control, and my impression that the prime mover sounds didn’t capture the real Alco sound I remember from my railroad years. One thing I really did like, however, was what they called Pitch Shift, CV188, where I could change the pitch of the entire sound schema of a loco. When these two units were mu’d, which is almost always, I could distinctly hear the difference in the two using Pitch Shift.
Athearn SW1500 and sound decoders
Hello!
I have just put 2 Tsunami KT1000 in my Katos SD70Mac and it's an easy installation. Now I would like to install sound in my Athearn Sw1500 but it's a tight fit and I don't want to modify the chassis. I have been searching info in the internet but I would like to hear from you some advice and ideas.

DCC What to do?
Hi All...
I am just getting back into modeling after about 26 years away. DCC is really new to me and I want to get a system for my new layout. With all of the different systems it is a bit over whelming.
I don't want to buy something and them later realize what I bought doesn't do enough for me. I am not sure what I even can get or what is a good or not so good system.
Can you all direct me to good systems and possible share what possibilities there are out there using DCC and what other additions might work well.

Wiring a commuter locos and cab lights to be prototypical! Feasible?
Hello everyone,
it has been a while since I posted on these boards!
I am (still!) in the planning process of my layout and I started buying better equipment (thanks to all your inputs on that!). I am also attending my local MR club every week so I can test my equipment.
