Track and electrical/DCC
Making a dummy
If I've got an old engine and am running DCC, can I simply remove the guts/gears and have a dummy engine or will somehow the metal wheels screw things up?
Silly turnout question re: DCC
Do the off the shelf Atlas #4 turnouts need to be modified to run DCC?
Fast track Code 70 and Code 83 Jig use
Ok folks I am thinking of getting my Father the Fastrack #8 (HO) jig for Xmass.
I have read that you can use one jig for both code 70 and code 83 as long as you are using Micro Engineering and I know that the base of each rail is about the same as you can put ties from either of them on the other code rail (I have done this when I need code 70 bridge track for instance).
I also have heard that for some reason the Code 70 jig works better for this.
So has anyone done this?
DCC: Educate me!!!
I've trudged through old posts and have picked up small bits and pieces of DCC, but I know nothing about it. Is there an idiots guide out there? I've been convinced to go the DCC route but I've got so many questions. If there isn't info in one place, here are my questions:
1. I've got several older locos 10-20 years old. Can they be converted? If so how and at what cost?
2. I don't even know the questions to ask here...but I have a layout that is VERY confusing. I need help wiring it to DCC. At the bottom is the layout.
Am I laying track down correctly?
Okay, getting ready to lay the track. I've got the roadbed (cork) down and painted. So here is where I am and what I plan:
1. Layed out and cut the track (mostly flex) to fit the design I want.
2. Traced around the track, them removed the track and layed down the roadbed.
3. Glued roadbed down and painted it.
4. Going to put the track back down (glue/brads)
5. Solder all joints? (if one rail is a couple of milimeters off,...can I just fill this with solder and sand?)
6. HOPE AND PRAY I DON'T HAVE SHORTS!
Newbie requiring help!!
Hello All,
My name is Chris and i am a Newbie from Great Britain!
Hopefully there is someone that can help me?
I have an Athearn Genesis 4-8-8-4 Big Boy Loco with DCC and Sound.
I have at some point reprogrammed the loco address and cant remember what it is
Is there any way of reprogramming the decoder without the loco address? Is there a full reset and restart of the decoder?
Bachman two motor 44 ton loco
Just put a DZ125 decoder in a HO two motor diesel What a sweet runner. Someone gave me the idea.

FastTracks Turnouts: DCC Friendly or Not?
I've often heard that "the only dumb question is the one you never ask." So here goes:
A local friend of mine says I shouldn't put FastTracks turnouts on my layout because they are, in his words, "not DCC-friendly." That doesn't make sense to me - couldn't I simply cut gaps in the rails to isolate the frog? That's what I did with an older Shinohara curved turnout and it seems to work OK.

If anyone is interested in servo and DCC controllers Tam Valley has a deal on right now where you can get a singlet servo accessory decoder for only $4.50. It's a sample deal so only 1 per customer at that price but a great way to try the decoder out.
Just thought I would mention it in case anyone wants to check one out.
