LokSound - ESU P42

Hi All,

I see a discussion about LokSound vs Soundtraxx for a P42 saying the LokSound is superior to the soundtraxx.

If a person was to purchase a decoder from lokSound for a P42 what would you need? A progammer and the decoder (Part number I am unsure of from their websie)?

If that is the case I would need to invest in more LokSound decoders to get value for money from the programmer?!

I have a couple of non-dcc Athearn P42's and need to convert the to DCC in the future, so curious to know options.

Regards,

Programming soundtraxx tsunami

I'm trying to program the address on a Genesis GP15 equipped with a soundtraxx tsunami decoder. I first tried in ops mode on the main track and that did not work. I then tried on the programming track in all other modes, which again did not work. Now I have lost all contact with it, can't program or read. The idle sound works when sitting on the track, but nothing more. My command station is a Digitrax DCS-100.

Decoder-pro ? for bruce

I just downloaded the latest JAVA and Decopro. Included in the new icons on my screen is one for Decoder-pro3. What is this and what advantages does it hold? John Colley, Sonoma, CA

cool new tool on the horizon

check out this wire bending and stripping gage. i can see endless possibilities with model railroads

it is still a kickstarter project, so you can invest in the product and receive a cool new tool !

Installed first Decoder...

...  I picked up a bottom-of-the-line Digitrax decoder (DN135D) to put in an old loco so my son had something to run when his friends come over (don't want them playing with the new DCC/Sound Locos).  The Motor control work fine, I still need to mess with the numbers to get it running a better, but it never ran all that great on DC anyway.

NCE Mini Panel custom face plate

Thought I would share a face plate I made for a NCE mini panel.

My railroad has all the wiring hidden behind a fascia, out of site, out of reach.  The NCE mini panel has a programming jumper and a setup port that needs to be used for programming.  Instead of burring the panel under the layout I decided to make a face plate and mount it to the front of the layout. It is the same height as the PCP panel face but wider of course.

Intermountain HO AC12 cab forward

This is a DCC-ready version I am converting to Tsunami sound (specific cab forward version). Used an NCE 8-pin decoder to check out operations and it runs great.

The loco-to-tender connection is an 8-pin affair but it neither conforms to the NMRA standards for pin function nor wire color code.  Anyone know a source for the wiring diagram? The sister board, also in the tender, has labeled pads but not all are connected to anything,

resistors

Qyestion for Bruce, et al: I understand resistors connect to the long lead on LED's. My ignorance is shown in my question...Is there a preferred polarity direction on a resistor? In other words, does polarity matter when connecting the resistor to LED and common (blue wire) or does the resistor go to the white or yellow wire? John Colley, Sonoma, CA
