got to volunteer on BNSF xmas-train, very rewarding and fun
Wow ,had a very rewarding ,fun and interesting day ,as a volunteer on the BNSF holiday train here in so cal this past weekend , this is a first class operation on a beautiful consist of business cars that takes trainloads of local kids on a winter holiday train ride manned by an all volunteer crew and helpers (like me and my son) to entertain and love on these kids .
What a wife!
The bride was trying to help me through my latest "funk" on model railroading so besides offering some great counsel she also gave me my Christmas present early! Check out my new loco:
It's a Broadway Limited Paragon SW1500 with DCC & sound! I took it around the layout for a few laps and it looks & sounds great. What a wife!
DCC readiness
Hi Gang,
I am contemplating investing in an Athern RTR GP38-2, the CSX #2559.
I am wondering weather or not this unit is DCC ready and if so, what decoder to choose for it - I prefer a drop-in sound decoder, but beggars can't be choosers...
Thankyou for your time,
Martin
Atlas N scale GP 40
Has anyone experienced replacing a fried motor on an Atlas N Scale GP 40 ? Getting a hold of Atlas is ridiculous. Any info will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Roundhouse Boxcab Conversion.
Each week I check in on a couple of blogs like Thunder Mesa Mining, Stockton and Copperopolis, and Wreckers Reef. Frank Palmer (Wreckers Reef) bought a Roundhouse Boxcab only to be very disappointed. He was going to throw it in the junk box when one of the readers posted a link to a MRH members blog on how to make it run better. Turns out it is GearedSteam's own blog. So, I post the same link here for those who finally want to tackle this project. There is a video with sound too.
SMD LED size?
I'm currently working on an Athean GP 38-2 that I'm building for a friend of mine and want to add ditch lights above the anticlimber as in this photo. Also having a bit of trouble determining what ditch light detail parts I need for this engine. What size SMDs will work. I'm new to the SMD leds as I haven't used them before. P.S. this is the actual loco I am building a model of.
Do you map functions on DCC-decoders consitently?

I would certainly like them to support the same functions as the rest of my roster, so my operators can be assured that F4 will always be "coast" and F7 will always be "brake", regardless of consist.
I have been thinking posting a question about this for a long time, but never made it.
My New GP20 Loco
Here is a picture of my new GP20 Loco running at our club. And yes it is 1 1/2 scale.

My Ho scale P2K Sw9/1200 after installing a Digitrax Decoder in it
This is My Proto 2000 SW9/1200 Diesel locomotive. I bought it in Union Pacific Colors, Stripped it and painted it for My Great Western Railroad. A Colorado Sugar Beet Railroad. It's been sitting on a shelf for years because I didn't have DCC in it. Well a couple weeks ago I started the Conversion. It went fairly well. I needed to remove the front weight to make room for the speaker I used.Everything went in but it is a really tight fit. I received some of the Decals Today for the Great Western Railroad lettering on the Hood. Anyway She Runs Very Nice and even at Slow Speed.
