Diesel locos

My Projects

I have most of my diesel builds available on my Fotki account. You will find anything from an M-420 to a C-430 there. You can click on the slideshow button to see the photos full size. Why did I build a C-430? Because none was available until I finished mine. Please enjoy the builds.

Please help me with my first attempt at consisting

Never having tried it before, I thought I'd try a consist today (taking a break from building to actually run some trains).

Did the Google search to see how it's done - to speed match, most say start with CV5.  Turns out 2 of the 3 locos I want to consist don't have a CV5, or at least it doesn't show up in JMRI.  (I use JMRI to program my decoders rather than my cab.)

P&SF - Testing the infinite baffle design

I like the infinite baffle design that MRHs DCC columnist Bruce P  often writes about, latest in this months DCC column.  I want to use that whenever possible in my own locomotives.

Just a week before an op session in June 2014 one of my crew came on a visit. He is mostly an 0-scaler and I models in HO. We began to talk about sound setting etc, and went down in the basement for running and testing.

How do I remove the numberboards of a P2K E7 so I can renumber the loco?

I'm trying to update the C&O/PM E7 from Walthers/Proto 2000 to a late 1960's C&O number. I found I easily removed the 'Pere Marquette' and the unit number on the side of the loco by soaking the lettering with Micro Sol for a few minutes and rubbing it off with a Q-Tip. Now, all I have to do is change the number on the numberboard.

Cab, walkway Level MU cables

I am modeling the Oregon and Northwestern Railroad Baldwin AS-616 and its detailing time. Researching MU cables has been a bit harder than anticipated. I have identified the unique connectors on several other Railroads, notably Southern Pacific, and find them modeled on several high end models. Need help with the correct name, and hopefully company that can provide the details.

Baldwin S-12 1458 Southern Pacific

Hi All,

my colleague asked me for a SP locomotive in "tiger strips". So my answer was quick and cheap - an Athearn Blue Box Baldwin S-12. (By the way that loco has too wide hood)

Some brass parts, puty, paint and decals and:

SD15-2 UPDATED

I'm back at work with my "What If?" SD15-2. It's built using Atlas, Cannon, and Smokey Valley parts. I figure with so many SD-30s being made, I'd divide it in half.
