What’s on your workbench?

I haven’t seen this thread for a while so thought I’d kick it off with my passenger car bash to make a 49’ Second Class Car:

Update!

Vintage DQ Era

Deemiorgos - according to the instructions these were 1950 - 1960's vintage era, although a few still exist in some small towns.

era

The squarish older DQ is identical to one I passed walking to and from elementary school in the mid-1950s. By the 1960s it had grown an exceedingly ugly concrete block wrap-around on the front to accommodate indoor seating. As built, it had two walk-up windows on the front exposure.

There was a classic Pure Oil filling station next door, with a bright white finish and steep pitched roof, plus a drop box for mail that was blue on the bottom and red on the curved top portion.

On my workbench are three Alco RS2 motors to be decodered and then painted for a friend who has an open house coming up in May. That and a '90s Walthers RBL kit in which none of the parts fit quite the way you would expect. Lots of fiddling and filing.

I do miss those old Walthers freight car kits...

Kinda wish they'd bring those back!

My newest factory wall has pilasters and cornice etched in 0.020 material. (The base wall is plywood.) This will be a shallow structure along the backdrop.wip - factory wall with cornice and pilasters

Tipple Project

This is the main portion of a tipple inspired by an old prototype that used to be in Ansted WV.  It loads over three tracks.  Its been adjusted to fit the available space on the RR.

Building some electronics

I'm working on a new controller and wireless throttle to replace the existing accessory electronics in my 2.5" scale loco.  it will reduce the number of enclosures from 4 down to 1, and will simplify the wiring.  Since it's a prototype, I'm using mostly off-the-shelf Arduino boards for quick development.

The controller will also work with the new ProtoThrottle when it comes out.

Right now, I'm laying out the buttons for the throttle, and seeing how everything will fit in an electrical enclosure I'm using for a quick-n-dirty handheld box.

@ Craig

I want to know more about this controller your working on. Sounds interesting and you have my attention when you said it can work with the Protothrottle. I'm trying to think of ways to make the Protothrottle work in 1\29 scale...

Some great stuff so far!

@Ron - No, it seems that my over zealous physical therapy has created some pinched nerves so not only are my fingers swollen and inflexible but now numb! That isn’t keeping me from coming up with things to do though!

The motivation to extend the passenger car was this new (to me) engine that looked so much bigger than the Bachmann passenger cars that some research into the OR&L lead me to dissatisfaction (what’s that thread about research?). I’m also trying to paint people and wondering why none (really, none) fit in the seats.

Arduino Controler.

@BNML2 - Craig, I second ctown2gn19/Craig’s request! Neat to see the Arduino controller as I have been frustrated by my own lack of electrical engineering skill to do something similar. Please consider sharing the build.

Do-Drop Drive-In

I am continuing to work on my Drive-In restaurant with work continuing on detailing the interior. I still have a few details in the dining area to add but the interior is getting pretty close to finished.
