MTM: Hank Cheng | A world apart

Ron Pare's picture

It is my honor and pleasure to share the work of Hank Cheng. From Teipei Taiwan, I feel he is a member of an international club of master modelers. One look and you think it is a real model. Then you see it is a model, of a model. Watch as the camera pans farther back opening the edges of miniature worlds.

Plus a few shared techniques.

Spectacular

Amazing work, and would fool many into being 1:1 unless told otherwise or saw it panned out. The use of phone for moving scenery outside train was amazingly simple in its use but wow unbelievably effective.

I did not ask

But do you suspect he held the diorama in the window of a car? I have been trying to figure that out for three days.

I refuse to ask. I want to come up with a few answers before I give in.

Wow

Google Hank Cheng and you can see much of his work on other sites. His model of a "Geek room" is amazing - air brush painting hood and all. Would like to see some of his 1:87 work if and when he does it.

He told me 1:72 is the smallest he has gone. Even that diorama is a sky island with a waterfall. The waterfall was made of two pieces of plexi-glass glued at a 90 degree and covered with what looks like silicone.

I think it was just the phone

Right at end of your video it shows a cut away with the phone in the "windows" of the train providing the back drop moving scenery, so I'd say he held the phone in window of a car or perhaps when riding the train.

Ah-ha, and to think I made the video and didn't see that. I had "stuff" on my mind, it is my excuse and I am sticking to it.

Thanks again for watching.

Amazing

It is amazing how many excellent molders are out there that very few people know about.

Building super detailed rooms is probably a smaller niche than model railroading. I wonder how he approaches operations once it's done? ......DaveB

Is it off-topic?

I wonder if it is so off-topic Dave. The similarities and advanced techniques are eye openers.
