QSI Decoder Issues
Thu, 2017-02-09 12:36 — pustays
To All,
Having a problem with a QSI Quantum Q1a decoder. I'm unable to program any CV's or address its address with either my Digitrax Zephyr or my computer via JMRI Decoder Pro.
Can anyone suggest any ideas for reseting the decoder to factory settings. If I can't do that I guess I'm wondering if anyone knows where I can get a replacement decoder that will work ... the loco is a Walthers Proto 2000 GP7.
Thanks for your help,
Steve

Decoder reset
See this:
http://www.broadway-limited.com/support/manuals/quantum%20q1a%20dcc%20re... (despite it being on the BLI website, it's the QSI manual.)
Check out Appendix V, page 221 for hardware reset methods.
Alternatively, if the decoder is the standard pc board type mounted over the engine, you might consider replacing it with a LokSound Select Direct (http://www.esu.eu/en/products/loksound/loksound-select-direct/) or Tsunami2 PNP (http://www.soundtraxx.com/dsd/tsunami2/products/tsuPNP.php) or a TCS WOW (https://www.tcsdcc.com/Customer_Content/Products/WOWKits/Diesel/index.php)

If....
Hi,
I'm doing as Jeff suggested so I have a number of QSI decoders of the right vintage and a programmer collecting dust. I don't know how to download sound files into it but there is a CD that came with the programmer that might help. Part of the reason for changing manufacturers was the friendliness do QSI. LokSound spells customer service with a capital C not a small k. If you're interested in the QSI stuff shout. QSI Solutions had a website and manuals at one time.

If you have the programmer
If you have the programmer and the drivers for windows all you need do is go to the QSI site.
http://www.qsisolutions.com/applications
and download what ever sound file you are after and also the Quantum Upgrade 3.1.0.0 application, once
installed click on load file then preview sounds then upgrade locomotive.
The drivers and applications are there on the site for download, also download CV Manager.
Thanks
Jeff and All,
Thanks to all. I don't have the programmer, so the option of upgrading the sound files is out. But IF I can get the loco to read and write changes to CVs, I'm going to try to do the hardware reset ... CV 49 = 28, CV 50 = 255, CV 56 = 113. If I can't get the board to respond (either by programming with the Digitrax Zephyr or possibly the DT402 OR with JMRI Decoder Pro) then I'm going to save some change for the LOKSound Select decoder that Jeff suggests. It comes highly recommended from some on another forum to which I posted.
All of your suggestions have been helpful. Hopefully later today, I can post some good news.

Download the Programming manual
Just about all the decoder manufacturers have downloadable decoder manuals(.pdf file),the instruction sheets
don't have all the info needed,OEM decoders may not have all the abilities of the aftermarket decoders.
Do the shutdown sequence on QSI decoders before killing the track power or taking the model off
the track, for it might reset itself if you don't.
That has happened to me with the P2K U-28B's unless I do the full shutdown!
Do you have the latest version of JMRI? Each update covers more and newer decoders out.
Blast mode
I could NEVER get my QSI sound decoders to program with my Digitrax Zephyr Extra unless I put in in Blast Mode.

best of luck,

QSI decoders require a lot of oomph..................
.............to program so a "Power Pax" or "PTB 100" is a must for successful programming without their programmer. Of the 2 I have found the PTB 100 to be much more effective.

We have a digitrax system as
We have a digitrax system as an interface with JMRI at our clubhouse programing station. It seems to perform best when set to direct mode. I also make it a habit to write all sheets and not just changes when programing. I also do it at least twice. It seems the occasional bit of info does not always end up in the decoder if I just do it once.
I hope this is helpful.
