Track work

I build my latest turnouts similiar to Joe with Central Valley tie strips.

Now I model the rail joints. I cut with a saw the top of the rail.

You see at the blank spot only the rail head is cut.

Looks fantastic!

That track looks great! It makes me jealous of the larger scales.

I wonder how difficult it would be to do that in N? Maybe not much point given how small everything is.

Tie Plates

Wolfgang,

Are you using Andy Reichart's proto 87 tie plates and spikes? Or is this the CV tie strips?

That looks really nice!

In these pictures you see the Central Valley tie stripes, mainline and branchline. But I've build one turnout with Andy's tie plates.

That looks really good.  The only comment I would offer is from my observation of walking along the tracks near my house and that is the joints are not usually opposite each other and usually supported by a tie (like in the first photo).

Ah!.. Now  I get it. You make a shallow cut to the top of the rail and then glue you  rail joint  to the side.  Clever.

For the standard pick up  joint between sections, you use? standard rail joinners?

Marc

Rail joiners

Yes, usually I use standard rail joiners, suitable for code 70. At some places I use PC board ties.

With this module - www.westportterminal.de/H0-USA/diamond_valley_e.html - I wanted to do more, to get more details.

joint bar

Andy makes together with his tie plates etched joint bars. Perhaps he makes them for N too?

I just took a walk over to the local switching yard. The rail  crew in your area must have been very concious workers. Mine have the joints but they look as if they made a special effort to not hit a tie.

Marc

cool!

Ill have to go buy some joint bars and do exactly this tomorrow! I can't wait!
