Update on BNML Layout Progress

Bill Brillinger's picture

Here is an update on my progress on the BNML. Morris to St Jean...

This diagram shows the area covered in this update.

I've made lots of progress since my last update. Got the big curve in and all of the track up to the south end of St. Jean.

The duckunder is in and I'm not finding it to be a problem. It's just high enough that I can pass under it in a 2 step motion quite comfortably.

Wiring is all in and everything seems to be working well.

Clamps

Yes Art, you are right - Many Clamps. I bought them when I saw them on super sale at Menards or Canadian Tire. They are cheap clamps but they got me through the house building project and now are working out great on the layout. I have two 3 gallon pails full, and many different kinds.

Cheers!

St. Jean

At one time there was a small yard in St. Jean. It's long gone.

In my case, I decided to omit the passing siding here because I wanted to create a bit of a puzzle. St Jean is not switched very often and AFIK they don't do any runaround moves there anyway. They pickup the facing points on the way back from Emerson.

My railroad is not actually prototype. It's proto-embellished. blush

Lookin' good!

I love the cork on plywood stage, jus the feel and the smell of it. Almost hate to cover it up!

Layout Drawing

Bill,

Thank you for the info. I'll have to look into that. Sounds very CAD like.

Layout drawing again

Yes, thanks Bill for the info on Corel. I'll be checking it out for sure.

The drawing and layout look very good.

Looking good. I drive past

Looking good.

I drive past St Jean on my way to work. I think I'm going to stop in and have a look.

Duck Under Height

Bill

How do you find the 45.5 inch duck-under height?  I'm trying to keep mine at 48 or higher (bit harder to bend at 66 than at 40).

Nice progress and construction (not overkill).

Duck Under

I've been traversing the duckunder quite a bit in the last few weeks.

I am 5'9" tall and have found the duck under to be no problem at all, I pass through in a single motion.

The Actual final opening is 45-1/4" tall and 43" wide and 16-1/2" deep.

Here's a little video to see how it fits. (sorry for the poor quality)

Maybe I should

(thanks for the video) Maybe I should try to remain active as I age and stop acting like I'm 100 (wink).  I've managed to keep the width of my duck-under to 9 inches deep and 30 inches wide and about 48 inches high.

Duckunder

I think if my duckunder were not 43" wide, I would need it to be taller otherwise it would begin to feel crowded and I would start bumping the edges.

If you'll excuse the unflattering photo, you'll see that I have a good 5" or more around myself as I pass thru.
