The HO modular layout shown in the video clip is a very nice layout. i believe it belongs to the Corpus Christi, Texas area railroad club. I had the opportunity to see it at the New Braunfels show a few years ago. The refinery is awesome!. The builder placed a mirror behind the structure which made it look twice as big as it really is. The layout also has one of the finest port intermodular scenes i've ever seen.....chuck
That turned out really well. Just for information's sake, I shot a whole lot of semi-random, wander-around footage of the layouts. Joe just turned it into something that made sense.
I'm still annoyed that we ran out of tape & battery before I got the Z-Bend Volcano shooting off on HD - if you'd like to see it as I shot it on Sunday from my Point & Shoot:
I was going to try and watch this video, but I got a message that I might have to update my Adobe player. To my knowledge mine is already current? Is this just another attempt to put more crap, and other links onto my computer??
Sorry, I'm just another non-computer-geek who gets tired of having to deal with all of these attempts to get unsuspecting/unknowable computer users to download all this un-needed crap.
Back when that video was posted in 2008 the flash player was (arguably) a reasonable way to distribute video. Flash is no longer supported by any reasonably up to date browser unless you deliberately turn it on or install it, and that’s because it’s in the process of being end of life’d. Don’t install it if you don’t have it. The video on this thread is just another casualty of tech moving on.
That's a shame. I was led to believe there was some VERY good material on that video about a refinery scene and container port. I was interested in seeing both, since I am currently working on both ideas for my new layout. Not that the material on the video is directly applicable, but you can often get some ideas, even if small ones.
Interesting video. It to me is very stunning on how much the video quality has improved over the years. I am referring to the quality of the recording and play back viewing quality not the quality of the subject or the composer. Technology has really taken a big leap forward since 2008.
To me..... The national train Layouts are some of the most unrealistic layouts I have ever seen?? Z scale Suitcase Layouts? N scale massive modular yard with no scenery at all. Then at every show there's the HO layout that has a different scene on each section. Come on Really? I stopped going to this type of show 25 years ago.
Apparently you've missed the point of the whole modular concept.... it allows people who don't have room... or time... .or money.... to do a complete layout to creatd a vingnette , basically a diorama, and have a place to show it off and run trains with others. If you want cohesive exhibitions, go on the layout tours. You're simply looking in the wrong place...You're looking for pumpkins in an apple orchard. It's a shame you've set your standards so high that you miss so much excellent modelling... and people having so much fun.

I'll have to see if I can dig up the original footage.
It is probably on one of two USB drives (multi-terabyte) in my library.
