New layout
Many years ago as a teenager I built Linn Wescotts HO railroad that grows. I later redid this layout in n scale on the same 4'8 table. As time went on I moved and was unable to continue in the hobby until recently. I am now in the initial planning stages for a new layout. It will be in HO scale and I have settled on plan #79 Frisco Lines from the book 101 track plans for model railroaders. I have not quite decided on an era yet, but I'm kind of leaning towards the 50s as I want to run a big boy on the layout.

Help! How do I create rivets in Sketchup for HO scale models
I need some help. I have the basics of Sketchup down, but I can't figure out how to create rivets. I just need the half circle dome. I am working on some 3D printed passenger car sides, and need lots of rivets, but can't seem to do it well. I plan on having them made through shapeways. Can someone please point me in some easy direction?
Thanks,
Doug

MyLatest Project
Here is my latest project, it is a Craftsmen Kit from B.T.S. (Better Then Scratch) it is Styrene and Laser-cut wood. Signal Maintainers' Storage building, kit #27511. I've been working on it this past week while I recuperate from Hernia surgery. There is still some additional scenery and some more details to add into the scene. I will up date the pics.

My Churchill Layout
I thought I would finally post the development of my N Scale Door layout that I have been working on for several months now.

The Perils of Progress
Sometimes rapid progress can be a bad (ish) thing.
Over the last two days, I've run out of wood glue, spackle, wire for feeders, and rail joiners! Oh well looks like a couple of shopping trips are in order.

S&NE - Starting to build some structures and lay down the scenery
I am always amazed how quickly time goes by when trying to maintain a regular blog! It is now nearly three months since I said anything about the Sunset and North Eastern so here goes.

Watch Out for Rabbit Holes!
One of the reasons model railroading is the World's Greatest Hobby is that it's actually a number of different hobbies, all working together toward one grand goal. The only problem is that's it's All Too Easy to go too far down the path of one particular aspect of the hobby. Before you know it - you're down a Rabbit Hole.
backdrops
I am slowly winning the battle with the almost 120 degree corner. Location 30-13. http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/27731
I plan to cover the masonite with white primer and then the top will be painted with sky blue. The first question is will the color behind the backdrop matter? I may only paint the top half of the masonite sky blue and leave the bottom white.
