New Year New Layout update #8 - where do you get your prototypes?

It’s not often you get to see a prototype for a mass produced structure or industry kit, but I had that pleasure yesterday. I was driving back to my DC area home from Buffalo, NY, and Mapquest took me down U.S. 219 – the Buffalo-Pittsburg Highway. Immediately after crossing the New York/Pennsylvania state line, I entered Bradford, PA which is the home of American Refining Group. ARG’s operation in Bradford is one of the oldest, if not the oldest crude oil refineries in the United States.

DODX Heavy Duty Flatcars

Hi there. I would like to model a modern military train load i H0. I'm looking for a flatcar, about 72' with 6 axels, I have fuond out that Alan Curtis have been producing flatcar decks for this model. but i can't find any of these models anywhere, so my question... do any of you guys have one or more of these kits laying around collecting dust, and even want to sell it, or can any one provide drawings, or do you know of an article on building this heavy duty flatcar.

Thanks, Peter

A Funny Thing Happened Today.

A few weeks ago I complaned about not being able to stay signed on to this site when using Firefox. I would be able to sign on, read a new posting but when I went to hit the Recent Posts choice on the right side of the screen I would find I was signed off. I know a lot of the folks here tried to help me and even Joe F. tried to help. No one could really figure it out even though I had no problems accessing the site with the same computer running Internet Explorer or using Firefox on two other computers.

Substructure Considerations

As I approach the next construction, I am interested in using materials that would limit as much as possible material travel due to changes in humidity. At my domicile stabilizing the humiidity level is simply not fiscally feasable, so I am wondering if there is another way to deal with the issue.

Track Plan for Test Phase II

Here is my idea for the first level of the next Test Phase. I'm not going to sweat this too much, this is not as much about the specific track placement as it is an overall concept. Still, it appeals to me as it stands. The yard should be sufficient from an operations standpoint to allow me to run this and get used to how to break down and make up trains.

Decoder

I have an old Athearn SW 1500 that runs great and I am going to use to convert it into an On30 Diesel. Order the Centre Cab Diesel body kit from Backwoods Miniatures and I would like to know what kind of sound decoder I should install in this "Baby". I have the Digitrax Chief System on my home layout. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

New Year, New Layout Update #7 - how to overcome adversity (or what to do when Nyquil is your best friend)

So for the past 2 1/2 weeks I've been fighting . . . . something.  Started out as what I thought was full blown flu; rounded the corner into a bacterial sinus infection (since dispatched with antibiotics) and sliding into home with some minor, but no less anoying chest congestion.  As you might imagine, this has ground my previously predicted benchwork construction to a halt (somthing about running a table saw on Nyquil . . .).
