Kalmbach announced today that my Steel Mill book is released

.

If you ordered from me, I have not received my copies yet. I should get them soon and will shipped the signed copies ASAP. It's not too late to order one from me as I will keep some in stock.

I hope you like it. Doug Gurin, founder of the LDSIG, commented that it is the best illustrated Kalmbach Book he has seen when he reviewed a copy.

THis evening my wife and I...

This evening my wife and I went down to the laundry room to do do the wash. After putting the clothes in the washing machine we went into the train room and looked at what I was working on. She knew of the buildings I was planning and had built to be named for my daughter's in law and at the one I was working on for her. She then asked me if I was going to do one for her mother.

I haven't been doing much lately

I haven't been doing much in recent weeks primarily because the situation at home has not been conducive to it. You see my mother-in-law had a coronary and between the week she spent in the hospital and her death and funeral, no one ay home has felt like doing much.

LVN - Building Newby Chemicals

Newby Chemicals is a facing siding that is shared by a second facing siding to a team track open freight platform.  Also there is a grain terminal facing with two tracks (5 car capacity).  There is also a trailing siding which goes into a lumber yard.  Newby Chemicals provides loading and unloading for a variety of products.  Four tanks are modelled in the facility though there are pipes leading off the layout.  Two of the tanks are for Chlorine (Cl) and two for Sulphur (S).

On behalf of my fellow S scalers. I'd like to wish all of you a Happy 3/16.

Scissors crossing

This is IT!  It all started with "I wonder if I can build a curved scissors....."  Details are:  Main lines are 66 inch and 68 inch nominal radius; turnouts with straight road are 66 inch nominal radius with a frog angle of 7.5 degrees (approx # 8); curved turnouts are nominal 68/36 inch radius with theoretical frog angle of 8.1 degrees (approx # 7) diamond crossing has two curved roards of nominal radius 36 inch.  Rail is code 100 and ties are 1/16th inch PCB

Bad track bad - make it good!

When Coalfinger Ken was over with the NCIOG group he was running his steam engine on the layout and discovered a REALLY bad track area on the uphill side of the plate girder bridge. Notice below that there is a big gap between the bottom of the level and the rail.
