Grimes Line Final Presentation

Pushing Towards the End

Finishing up some smaller details on the CB&I scene on my IAIS Grimes Line layout. I was able to get some photos of the signs around the outbound crane, and modified them in Photoshop. The pump house is from a Rix Products kit.

The Crane at the End of the World

To follow up on my previous post about modeling Chicago Bridge & Iron, I’ve continued to make progress on the scene and have incorporated it into recent op sessions on the Grimes Line.

Chicago Bridge & Iron

The final piece of my IAIS Grimes Line layout is underway. I’ve attached a photo showing what looks like a random collection of Tinkertoys that will, hopefully one day, be the outbound crane of Chicago Bridge and Iron in Clive, Iowa. I’m guessing some of you may be wondering, is that all?

Grimes Line Progress 2014

Along with my blog entries here, I also keep a photo album of my Grimes Line layout at the Unofficial IAIS Railfans website. I've updated that album with new pictures showing overall views of the layout, and my progress over the last three years.

A Swing Down Swanson Blvd

Final details are done on the Swanson Blvd commercial park scene on my IAIS Grimes Line layout.

The Chase

To celebrate the third anniversary of construction beginning on my IAIS Grimes Line layout, but also to try out my new HD-DSLR camera, I put together a quick railfan video this weekend. Follow train DMSW-25 thru some of my favorite, and less obvious, railfan spots along the Grimes Line.

With Apologies to Joyce Kilmer

Progress continues at the Clive peninsula on my IAIS Grimes Line layout. This evening I finished up the Clive Greenbelt, as well as the detail scenery at the Swanson Boulevard industrial park. One of the nice things about modeling a modern-era prototype is that its very simple to match the real thing tree for tree, so to speak. A simple visit to Google Maps gives me my roadmap on what to place where on the layout.

The Peninsula Campaign

I’ve been able to make some recognizable progress on the final scene of my IAIS Grimes Line layout, the Clive peninsula. The past few months have left me with little time to work in the basement, but a lull in my professional career has finally opened up the opportunity.
