To celebrate the third anniversary of construction beginning on my IAIS Grimes Line layout, but also to try out my new HD-DSLR camera, I put together a quick railfan video this weekend. Follow train DMSW-25 thru some of my favorite, and less obvious, railfan spots along the Grimes Line.

A leisurely chase

Perfect.

And I love the flag in the coupler on the last car. A really nice touch.

Cheers!

Test Run

Bob, Trevor, thank you very much.

Mostly I made it to test the video options. I've been so used to 2/3" CCD cameras all these years that I'm still getting my sea legs when it comes to DSLR video. Hopefully there will be more to come.

Optimal CVs

Correct! Thanks to Joe (and others), I've dialed in the CVs for my locomotive with what I think is the best setting... for me.

Honestly what works for one person isn't going to work for everyone, but it's simple enough to adjust (and adjust back) that it's straightforward to find the optimal settings for you as well.

That was fun

Good stuff, James! The red flag indeed is a nice touch.

EOT Flags

Thanks Paul,

The Grimes Line is nothing if not simple, and I can't think of anything simpler than a safety flag being used for an EOT Marker.

Done here

We've got a local job called the Renton Rocket that runs the main from Balmer Yard to Renton Jct. on our Seattle Sub with a red flag. Then it enters the Renton Industrial Lead to serve a garbage loadout and Boeing's 737 plant. Yesterday's Rocket was two Geeps and two coil cars -- brought the Grimes Line to my mind. Paul Schmidt

Coming Together

Thanks Darin,

My layout is finally getting to the point where I don't look at it and think, "I've still got this to do." It's just a lot of fun at this stage.

Great Stuff

This is a great looking layout, and nice quick peek. The scenery and track layout is perfect for those rail served light industrial areas found all across the continent. Looks like a great layout to do some switching on.

The view looking up at an extreme angle at the highway underpass was a neat and different angle, not one you see on a lot of model railroad videos. Really puts one in the perspective of a ground-level observer.

Very nice

Nicely done, although I have to admit I was kind of waiting to hear some radio transmissions in there!

Nice step up

The Hickman Road angle is a lot of fun. What changes did you make for lighting and greater depth of field this time around?

Outstanding Video!

Hi James;

Great video, really like some of the angles you used in making the video. Your modeling looks so real. Keep up the good work!

Always enjoy seeing what you're up to on your layout.

Nice Job on Everything...

Beautiful...what more can I add?  Inclusion of foreground shrubbery to add depth to the scene, odd (for model videos) view angle and realistic, smoooooth speed (a well-sorted loco...and operator !)...ya don't need 1500 square feet and half-a-million dollars to "do it right".  Time, skill & vision !  Thanks for sharing !   BOb
