FREMO modular layout

Last weekend I visited a modular layout of a FREMO model railroader group in southern Germany. It was really great by dimensions and by quality!

You'll find my picture gallery here: http://industry-ave.de/index.php/Quellen:AmericaN_Lauffen_2014

Cargos for open cars

The last few days I made some cargos for my open cars. All loads are removable within seconds, without even touching the car.

Gondola with crushed rock:

Gondola filled with debris:

Sound player

I've found a nice gadget - a little sound player. It can be used as a portable sound player if the loco is without sound or as a stationary sound player for example at a grade crossing: http://kleinbahnwiki.de/index.php/SoundFRED

White poles with red tops

I often noticed white poles with a red top, like here:

See 1:54, on the left side, two of them.

What do they stand for, what are they marking?

Operational concept of "Industry Ave"

I already presented the first two modules of the modular switching layout "Industry Ave" (http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/13976). The goal was to get an industrial layout focused on switching. But my concern was - will this become boring after some time? After serving some industries everytime the same way with the same moves?

In my concept - and now realization - the modules can easily be rearranged. There will be the same industries, but the moves to serve them will change everytime.

Mobile homes in N scale

The next module of my switching layout (http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/13976) will have a trailer park with mobile homes. They are hard to find in N-scale, so I decided to make some by myself as a 3D-print:

The picture shows the first prototype with primer just applied. Next is airbrushing and weathering, adding window glasses and so on.

SMD at night

A night view of my tire dealer (N-scale) - also a HDR-photo.

The lamp is a SMD-LED glued to a small styrene tube. The LED is heavily dimmed with a much bigger resistor then required as a minimum. It's unbelievable how bright those tiny SMD-LEDs are.

Tank Car

In some way this is a tank car too: smiley

These two tanks are made as a 3D-print; they are also useable for a chemical industry or similar ...

The loads have to be removable for FREMO-like operations.

Weathering boxcars

Weathering the rolling stock is a must - the plastic look of cars just coming out-of-the-box ruins every illusion.

3D-printed details added

A few details were still missing - so I added some details on my first module of the modular switching layout "Industry Ave":

The cold storage got some cooling units on its roof:

The tire dealer got some tire stacks and heaps:
