Important Note to Internet Explorer or Safari users on a PC / Mac: Please right click (ctrl-click on Mac) and select "Save target as" (IE) or "Download link as" (Safari) to save the PDF to your device instead of opening it in your browser. MRH downloads

I've been downloading MRH since issue 1 and never had a problem. The current download has taken 70 minutes to acquire 32 pages, at which rate it will take 5 hours for the entire issue. It took only 2 minutes in the past. It The download procedure has changed, apparently for the worse. I have been using Time-Warner cable for years with no trouble, though sometimes a slowdown occurs due to heavy traffic. Never anything like this, however. Your thoughts?

Download problems

We test every download link using two different providers and they're running at their usual zippy speed. If you're having a download problem, keep in mind the web can sometimes change behavior when it comes to very large downloads.

Make sure you follow our trouble-shooting guidelines in the link at the bottom of the download links.

Regarding iPad downloads, please see this link in our help section:
help/download-MRH-to-iPad

Keep in mind that downloads of very large files in a browser are unreliable on mobile devices - so you MUST use a special app to get reliable download performance for huge files on mobile devices. We recommend GoodReader on the iPad/iPhone and ezPDF Pro on Android devices.

Some other trouble-shooting things you can try:

1. Reboot your device/computer.

2. If you're using a computer and wifi, try plugging in a network cable instead of using wireless. On mobile devices using wifi, try using 3G or 4G to connect instead.

3. Reboot your wifi router/modem.

4. Try a different device - if you're using a tablet, try your phone or a computer instead.

5. Make sure you follow the troubleshooting guidelines and you try a different browser

6. Make sure you also try the mirror/backup server - that changes the dynamics between us and you significantly and could make a big difference.

7. Make sure you try the much smaller Standard Edition and see if that makes a difference. We don't recommend the Embedded Edition except for Windows PCs with a nice fast internet connection. Everyone else should be using the Standard Edition.

8. Sometimes just waiting a few hours can make a huge difference. Getting from us to you can involve a dozen or more hops on the internet, and if one of the nodes close to you is busy, things can go bad quickly if you're trying to access a huge download. Talk to your ISP if the problem persists for more than a day.

Since only a few people report this kind of download problem, there's something between us and you, most likely close to your end, that's the problem. We get tens of thousands of downloads on the first week of release, and only a handful of folks report problems - so it's something local to you causing the issue. The trick is figuring out WHAT is causing the problem.

By following our troubleshooting guidelines, you can generally locate the problem and get things working well again.

No Problem Here

Just to let you know, I just downloaded both the Portrait and Landscape Standard Editions simultaneously in less than 2 minutes over a 20Mbps DSL line. YMMV...

That's what we see in our tests as well - nice zippy downloads.

And we're testing on tablets, phones, and desktops/laptops. We only get a handful of folks each issue that get super slow downloads or downloads that fail. So we can only assume there's something going on near your location that's plugging the pipe, since 99.9% of our readers get the zippy downloads.

If you follow our troubleshooting link at the bottom of the download links page and actually walk through the steps, that almost always will locate the problem for you. And of course for mobile devices, ditch the browser download, it's unreliable. Move to our recommended download management apps - GoodReader for iOS and ezPDF PRO for Android.

DOWNLOADING

NO PROBLEMS HERE IN THE EASTMIDLANDS OF THE UK

Me either, downloaded every

Me either, downloaded every issue through my home account onto an old laptop (Macbook Pro 2006), then copy as needed to various devices, back up drive, iPhone, Nook, PC computer, etc.

I get an average embedded issue in about 2-3 minutes or less, though I am on fiber optic through Verizon, your mileage may vary. I've got to say I am very impressed with the speed of downloads, and the quality of the magazine.

Thank you JoeF and all the contributing authors that make each issue so good. I'm new, back to the hobby, after 25+ years of inactivity and have learned a lot from MRH!
