Shelf layout & other projects update

Howdy,

Been quite a while since an update but we have been busy on a bunch of projects:

  1. basic layout scenery
  2. installing backdrop
  3. scratchbuilding structures
  4. weathering cars

Heres how the layout looks now (best I could do for an overview):

Let there be light(s)

Continuing buildup of my old layout modules in a new house...

Temporarily took down the 2 modules for easier installation of the LED lights.  Its just 2 wires to disconnect and 2 quick clamps so takedown process is about 1 minute long. Very convenient.  I went with 2 strips of LEDMO LEDs,warm and cool temp 2835's which seemed like a pretty good choice based on other MRHers experience.  I had zero interest in the doctoral thesis level of lighting research, just wanted something that would light up the layout.

Shelfless no more

Howdy all,

Been out of model railroading action for a few months due to a relocation.   Now I'm all moved into new house and itching to get back in the game.  New house has a nice spare room in a gable roof with a long wall perfect to get my shelf layout modules finally up on a wall.  Pics in following posts

The shelfless shelf layout

Progress continues on the build of my steel framed modules (http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/29849).

We have been operating module 1 (72"x16") semi scenicked with the prototype 48" module temporarily attached. Module 1 is a main with a transload track and a long industry spur.  Not designed as an inglenook but does look like one. Ultimately the layout will be shelf mounted but for now it's jury rigged on an old coffee table and TV table.

New shelf layout benchwork

First ever blog entry!  Thought I'd share since its using steel stud and track, a method that occasionally comes up but I haven't seen it much used for a shelf layout. Generally the details of construction are pretty thin in discussions too.

Just to set the stage. This will be my second layout since getting back into the hobby as an adult. The first was last year; a typical 4x8' double track roundy round with a small yard and a couple industry spurs.
