What got you into the Model Railroading?
I got an email today as we planned for an upcoming train show about how we need to get "young people" interested in the hobby. I cannot for the life of me remember any defining moment at a train show that some old guy talking to me made me want to get into model railroading. I just have always liked trains, no specifc reason, just do.
Need some Help
I have just renewed my interest in HO trains after a 30+ year absence. I have a Digitrax super chief control system on a 6 by 10 layout. the layout has 2 reversing loops and are connected to a PM42 wired for auto reversing and the other 2 sections of the PM42 are set up as power districts (probably over kill, but did it because I thought it was the right way to do it.

He is a good friend and fellow MRH forum member. I asked him to take some photos of my equipment and scenery that have been worked on so far.
Please post away!

Closing
It was announced on Oct. 1 that Polk Hobbies/ Aristocraft will be closing on Dec 31 of this year. Sad news
Demise of Polk's Hobby
From email received yesterday.
Polk's manufacturers the AristoCraft Large Scale and RMT O Scale product lines. The AristoCraft provided one of the broadest Large Scale product lines in the industry with generally good quality at a fair price. The recession and Chinese supplier problems really hammered them hard. They will be greatly missed. Note that The Crest electronics products are being spun-off (http://shop.crest-electronics.net/main.sc) to a new operation.
JL&T gets a visit...
Well folks we have returned from our fabulous 3 week adventure in the USA, we spent the entire time in CA visiting friends in Ramona, and touring the coast up to San Francisco and into the mountains at Mammoth Lakes. It was a awesome trip, with fantastic weather and great times catching up with our friends and seeing the USA and all she has to offer.
3-D Explained
I have to admit that I am totally un-informed as to what 3D Printing is all about. Is there an in-depth explanation out there or here at MRH that explains it? Is it paper? How do you get a plastic shell or building or something from a 3D print? Where does the design come from?
As you can see, what I'm looking for is a step-by-step explanation. I'd like to take advantage of new technology; however, I'm one of those guys that still struggles to remember what my Apple ID and password are on my iPhone. . . . .
Lone wolf modelers
A post on another topic talks about "lone wolf" modelers. I figure this means people who build on their own, don't choose to have other people over to visit much, and maybe live in areas where there are few to no other model railroaders.
I remember a great layout a friend built with his son. After the son grew up, no one ever saw it because his wife wouldn't tolerate visitors to the house -- I saw it while she was away on family matters.
Questions:
For Musicians Only
This is not meant to be a serious discussion...
Am I the only one who wants to shoot himself every time he sees a model railroad video with a bluegrass music soundtrack? Does every train really require a banjo to be played while it is running? LOL!
I'm starting to puke too when another current trend - jazz combo, medium tempo swing tune - music is played. I mean, trains are big powerful monstrosities yet we put the most benign uninvolving music behind them. I know trains are the most important thing but can't we put some time into choice of sound track too? :-)
