March 1, 2011 - server issues

We moved to a new more powerful server a few weeks ago and we're continuing to have issues with our internet service provider - the latest of which was this morning.

We have been contemplating a move to a different provider because of all the issues we've had of late with our current provider - and we've now decided this move needs to be a high priority because our current provider is just not giving us the stability and performance we need.

I just uploaded a bunch of images to a thread. One of them I uploaded by accident, a 4MB image. I went to my file browser to remove the errant upload, and NONE of the images I uploaded today are there, just the images I uploaded previously.

Where are my images?

Today's site updates

We've done a couple of site updates today:

1. Turned the new recent posts list back on. This list only shows forums, blogs and eZine comment page changes. All the "housekeeping" changes that used to show are now filtered out. Also you can click on a heading to sort the list by that heading. Finally, if you're looking for your recent posts (used to be on a tab), you now need to go to My account > Track to find that list.

Login settings reset

With all the random logout problems today we had to do a site reset which flushed all the sessions and reset the login.

This means you may have been suddenly logged out and could not log in for a few minutes. Now that the reset is done you should be able to log in again and (we hope) stay logged in while you navigate the site.

What changed?

1. Site look-and-feel has been changed.

The look of the site is now different - one more significant difference is the page width has been increased so 800-pixel wide images fit within the page. Also, when images exceed the 800 pixels, they are cropped, they no longer overlap the side menus and "break" the look of the site.

2. Random header replaced with every 7-second slide show.

MRH site outage circa 4:15 pm Pacific

We had the MRH web site go down today circa 4:15 pm Pacific time and it was down for over an hour.

Our internet service provider that hosts our server had some name server problems and our site was not visible on the internet during the time they were dealing with the issue.

But we're back now and all is well. Sorry for any inconvenience our brief absence on the internet may have caused!

Site changes ...

We've made some changes to the web site in preparation for the new site look, which we now expect to make this coming weekend - Saturday night, Feb 19th, at midnight - more on that later.

CHANGES TO THIS SITE:

We've changed the post type labels you will see in the recent posts list to align more with what the content is:

Web - Standard MRH web page that contains web specific content like the page about our Reader Survey.

eZine - Magazine or newsletter comment pages.

What are the titles of posts supposed to do when you click them?

Right now, all that happens when you click on the title of a post is that it moves that post to the top of the sreen. Is that what is supposed to happen?
