Rapido taking reservations for H16-44s
Just wanted to throw out a quick heads up to anyone wanting models of the late series H16-44 FM diesel locomotives. Rapido is taking reservations to see if these will go into production. I have reserved some for myself at my local hobbyshop.....about 100 miles away.
The models look to be extremely well done detail wise with lots of road specific details. For anyone not familiar with the H16-44 in this version verses the excellent Atlas models, the Atlas models were the early type the models from Rapido are of the type that looks like short versions of the trainmaster.
question about the AATT century 415 alco size
For those in the know better than me here is a question for you. I have an ATT model of the alco century 415. To me it seems to be bigger than most of my locos that I have. My question is this, is the ATT, AHM, and whoever else made them other than in brass, scaled bigger than the real engine. Kind of like the older blue box Athearn diesels were labeled as wide body because they were slightly bigger in scale due to the motors having to fit inside the shell.
Does this question make sense?
New addition
Recently a friend gifted me with a smooth running, DCC, Atlas R-S1 in a custom colored road name. Although this was a smooth runner I had another friend add sound and a keep alive which really brings out the old Alco sound. In addition I added a Bachmann steam engine bell on the front (like M&STL) and the attched photo is the result.
This locomotive will either be the switcher on the balloon track grain elevator for a modern era or a road engine on a short line for a 50s railroad.

Help me select paint BN loco
I have my O scale SW-9 torn apart and stripped. I want to repaint it to look like the BN 149. I’m a complete novice at painting locomotives, so any tips are helpful.
I’d like to see other people BN paint jobs and the paint colors they used. Also, what color primer did you use. There are so many paint brands and it’s hard to figure out what it looks like until it’s on a surface.
Athearn/Roundhouse disappointment
I recently bought 2 Athearn/Roundhouse Canadian National 40' stock car kits: #2924 & 2925.
For the price I paid, I was somewhat disappointed. Rather than prototypically-faithful, they turned out to be updated tooling for the old Athearn Blue Box kits minus the horn-hook couplers. They had cleaned up the underfloor casting but did not correct the placement of the brake cylinder and air reservoir. And the cars still needed extra weight to meet the NMRA RP, and replacement of the plastic wheelsets.
Proto 2000 PA gear casing assembly
I need to replace a gear casing on a Proto 2000 PA loco. I'm having trouble figuring out where to place the 7 gears, having tried several combinations w/o any success.

Athearn Genesis GP39-2 Problem
Last October, my (very understanding) wife got me an Athearn Genesis GP9-2 (MKT) for my birthday. Outstanding detailed model and it ran just fine up until a couple of months ago. On my switching layout, I never run the models over 10 scale miles per hour, but I had given the model quite a few minutes of break-in time on an oval of track I keep for such purposes.

Does anyone know what make of can motors are in Boo Rim brass locomotives?
B&M Branchline Caboose Kitbash Ideas
Looking for good ideas on slicing and dicing an Athearn wide vision caboose to create a reasonable version of a Boston and Maine branch line (buggy) caboose. By "reasonable" it does not have to be museum quality to detail, but to have clean craftsmanship and better than a general representation of the prototype.
The International Car Co. rebuilt thirty-eight cabooses in 1959 from fifty wooden bodied, steel framed cabooses for the B&M. Many of these cars served into the 1980's, generally in branch line service.
