Locos and rolling stock
Athearn BB sideframes
I started working on a few Athearn BB dummies to expand the loco roster. When removing the sideframes as I go through these, it seems like I break at least one of the main "pins" off as I gently pry off a set. I don't feel as if they are more stuck as they come off or the pin is breaking, it feels just the same as those that don't break. It's not until I turn it it over do I see that they broke.
Athearn Cab coach
Hi I would like to put working lights in a Athearn Cab Coach. Do I need to get replacement trucks that have electrical pickups as the ones fitted are plastic any advices would be apprecieated. Peter
Tuning/upgrading old Athearn units
Hi everyone. I'm new to MRH and was pretty excited when I came across this place. I have to say that the free online magazine is very well done. I'm looking forward to learning a bunch from everyone on here.
44 tonner mods
G'day folks
I am sure that just about everyone who has model railways (sorry - railroads) has at one time or another had or used a Bachmann 44 ton switcher.
With this tiny loco being the focal point of my layout currently under construction, and having used locomotives with DCC and sound, I am asking if anyone out there has installed or know of someone who has installed a sound chip and speaker into the tiny space of these locos?
glue...
I have been trying to make a locomotive hood using Evergreen styrene and Cannon parts. My question is how to glue pieces to the .020" backing without getting warping? It looks good when I finish a side then after it sits for a couple weeks (I don't have much modeling time) it is warped and bowed. I am using Ambroid cement applied along the edges with a small brush. Most of the warping happens when trying to laminate larger pieces like the clean air room to the backing. In those areas I apply more glue with the brush in the bottle. Is i
Sergent Couplers on Trueline Rolling Stock
One of the most frustrating parts of installing Sergent couplers is the spring that provides some friction for the coupler in the pocket. Fitting between the coupler post and a slot in the coupler, it can take a few lost springs before getting comfortable with this task.
ATHEARN F-UNITS
Quick question. I just finished putting together a set of Athearn genesis F-units and I ran them at the club. They have the plastic sideframes with the add on details and when I ran them the brake details were hitting the steps on the shell. This would not let these negotiate some of the sharper curves on the layout. The layout is big and I dont know the curve radius but I assure you its not 18 or 22 inch.
Did I do something wrong or is this a common experience? Thanks MARK
BLI UP AC60CW major modifications
I've done some major mods to make the model correct for 7513. As it comes it's not correct for much of anything. I have a very long list on the Atlas forum if you'd like to see all I'm doing/done. One of the more obvious things is raze the roof. UP 7500-7509 came with the engine compartment doors even with the top. 7510 and on, there was a 8" space from the doors to the top. There's a long list of things, take a look.
Thanks, Bobby Pitts
