Homemade wood/cedar shingles - Thanks!
I want to give a big thanks to G1000vista who posted the idea of how to create a shingle roof from brown paper bags. I struggled with several types of roofs and none seemed to work (for me) on this project. I think the brown paper bag trick turned out really good, especially since this is my second "real" attempt at building/weathering a structure. It is my first wooden structure and just had a smooth piece of wood for the roof.
More stuff sitting everywhere
Having noticed that the real world seems overrun with a wide variety of large bins and boxes strewn across almost any open parking lot or other area, I created three donation bins to occupy the lot surrounding my HO scale rural crossroads store.
Staples Banner Sale
Staples is having a big sale on 6ft by 2.5ft 10oz vinyl (indoor) banners; they are $10 per banner. Might be a good way to create some personalized backgrounds.

New HO scale figures coming thanks to 3D scanning and printing
Just saw an ad in the newest Gazette that appears interesting so I followed up on their website. RailRoadAvenue Models isn't a MRH advertiser so far as I know but perhaps they could be encouraged to join.
Now if there were some way to use a special 3D CAD program to modify their designs (or others) to print custom LP...
Passengers in Vehicles
Has anyone tried or have tips regarding how I might add figures (Drivers / Passengers) to HO vehicles? I've always been annoyed with 'empty' cars and trucks driving down the street. Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Dimensions of Railroad Crossing Sign
Another small problem because I don't live over there
I want to make two of these but I need some dimensions.
For instance: How high should the pole be? What is the length of one of the boards on the above sign?
I am assuming that, in the early 1950s there was no flashing lights on the average crossing?
Any help would be much appreciated
Solder for strenght
This is not a question about solder for electronics or track feeders. I'm building an N scale chain link fence and I will be trying to use as little solder as possible. I will be attaching very thin wire representing the posts and am attempting to use less but stronger solder as my "glue." I've tried all manners of glue and none of them work so I am reluctantly using solder.
Paper Model Prairie Grain Elevator
I am wondering if anyone on MRH might be familiar with this (apparently defunct) website:
http://www.angelfire.com/empire/auction/Members-Paper-Models.html
I used to have the author’s files downloaded but suffered a hard-disk failure on that machine, and no longer have the files. It appears the site is no longer active – as I cannot get the download links to appear on either of my two browsers.

Scenery and structures
I've been looking on E-bay for various static grass applicators and have seen listings for this applicator and
was wondering if anyone has used it and what the results are.
Thanks,
Howard

Sometimes I just love being a pack rat
So, as I talked about earlier, I am working on a church. The new method of doing the stain glass windows are working great, just have to go slow and work my way around the building. And Ivy for later.
The light sockets are glued down for inside the building, and the electrical switch works to turn them on and off. They light up the stain glass windows nicely when the building is placed.
3 different colors of grass are mixed onto the base, with painted concrete walks and blacktop road and parking lot.
