Static Grass

I'm taking a break from kit building and getting back into some scenery work.  I'm putting together the parts to get a low cost static grass applilcator (fly swatter - strainer etc.) and need to find a source for some static grass to make tufts and grass for a western Colorado and eastern Utah desert envronment.

I check MBK and surprisingly they had very little static grass material at all.  What are some good sources to order static grass and can anyone suggest which brands and sizes and colors would be good to shoot for.

White toner for laser printers - First test!

I just found out that a German company makes white toner for laser printers. You replace the black cartridge and print white instead of black. Supposedly works on any transparent decal paper.

Here's the link: http://www.ghost-white-toner.com/?lang=en

I just ordered one for a test, I will post as soon as I get it and have results.

Substitute for WEATHER-IT

Hello,

This question is from Japan.

I am now using and looking for WEATHER-IT produced by A-WEST, but WALTHERS says it was discontinued a few years ago, and is no longer available. Did this company, A-WEST, go bankrupt?

For a long time, I attempted to reproduce some aging stain for wood surfaces like WEATHER-IT. For example, white vinegar + Japanese ink (for calligraphy), isopropyl alcohol (100%) + Japanese ink, etc. But they are not good for aging stain.

Cutting Building in Half

This is a building that is part of a 3 structure mill complex. On my last layout it worked really well in it's full size state. Not anymore! So what is the best way to cut it in half length ways. You can see the part of the right side that is missing windows and has no weathering. I want to cut it between the weathered and non weathered sides on both ends of the building. I'm thinking either by hand using a small x-acto saw or with a dremel tol and cut off disc on slow speed.

Great War era tanks?

I've seen cardstock models of Great War/World War I era tanks.  I don't like working in cardstick; I've never had good luck, and live in a humid area, too.  Has anyone on here ever seen 1/87 scale pre 1920's tank kits, or built any?  I'd like a tank as a freight load.  (It can be from any nation.)

A simple manual turntable Part 1

I am so determined to make from scratch a manual turntable, as my funds are limited and I like the challenge.

Something like this, but with a flat base instead.

I've assembled a turntable kit years ago and learned a lot and will apply this to my project.

So far I have got myself two bearings, a rod, and enough wood to make two turntable bridges in case I mess one up.

Ram Board for backdrops

I went to Home Depot today to get some tempered hardboard for backdrops.  All the way there I was thinking about how to curve it around the corner of the room.  I didn't come up with any good ideas.  Pushing my cart up the aisle I saw these rolls of stuff called Ram Board.  It's a very heavy tough cardboard type of product for protecting floors on a job site.  It measures .04" thick.  A 38" wide, 50' long roll costs $30.

Accurate chain-link fence in O scale?

I'm looking for the most accurate chain-link fence in O scale as I can. I've been asked to create a diorama for a museum and window screen or "it'll do" kind of stuff won't do. I know there are good acid-etched chain link fences for HO, but does anyone do it for O scale?

I need "front cover of MR magazine" quality stuff here...

Walthers Cornerstone series

I havent been paying a lot of attention to Walthers lately and noticed on their website I couldnt find the walls to build your own stuff. I saw Design Preservation though did and it looks identical except color. Did DPM but the Cornerstone stuff from walthers? And if so did anything change as far as fitting together?

I have some parts and pieces left over but of course no walls. Now I could use some.
