Atlas Master DCC System Questions
Hey All,
As many of you know from other posts, I am building an HO layout for the first time on a shoestring budget. I found someone selling a used Atlas Master DCC system for $40 which is by far the best deal I have found so far in terms of used DCC starter systems.
DK Electronice (Adafruit) motor shield
Greetings!
I am new to the DCC++ world and trying to setup my N scale system. I have a Raspberry Pi running JMRi. it is connected to a UNO with a DK Electronics motor shield. All seems to be working up to the motor shield. I am wondering if the DK Electronics motor shield works with the DCC++ setup. Any help would be wonderful!

ESU LoKPorgrammer woes with latest software upgrade - Solved
13-Jan - see my last post - was able to revive the dead decoder.
I don't detect any chatter on the ESU forum on this, did submit a query there, but also trying here.
I recently upgraded to version 5.0.10, which is the latest version. I am trying to reload an existing sound file that I have successfully used and reloaded in the past. Now I get one of these messages shortly after the progress window says "Reading CVs".
Mostly I get "the detected decoder is not supported".

Powering frogs with Caboose groundthrows
I’m only now converting my layout to DCC after operating for years on friends layouts that use it. A lot of this will be new construction. I've always liked Peco turnouts and used them extensively on my old layouts with great success but I see they are a bit more complicated using dcc, at least according to what I’ve been reading online. Seems like a huge variety of opinions on all this.

Looking for Low RPM Solution
I am working on an N scale structure project and want to add some animation. I need to animate part of it so there is a constant rotation of around 6-10 RPM. It isn’t large and load isn’t the issue. My questions are around the best way to provide a low RPM solution that can run for 10-20 minutes in a stretch.
Things I have considered:
Gear reduction on a small motor running at speed. My concerns with this are:

Track for coming off turnout to straight track
OK so I am almost embarrassed to ask this but I have looked everywhere and cannot find anything online about this. When you have a turnout (lets use a #4 as an example) and you are coming off the turnout and making a parallel running track (like in a yard), what piece of track do you use to connect the turnout to the straight piece of track? Does it depend on what type of turnout you are using?
Also if you are using flex track, can you connect flex track to the turnout and then have it continue along running straight parallel to the other track?
Thanks!

Power/power booster requirements for DCC layout
I am finally in layout construction mode again as it gets further along, I'll need to be planning for power capacity to the rails in DCC operatoin.
The layout is planned to have:
- 1 approx 30' main yard with switching operations to local industries and engine facility.
- About 85 feet of mainline with two 21' passing sidings
- 1 staging yard with 14 staging tracks.
What's the best/safest way to remove soldering flux from skin?
I spilled a little bit on my hand. I washed with soap and water and then some alcohol but my hand is still sticky.

What to look out for in used switches
I am going to be visiting a gentleman who is selling Atlas code 100 nickel silver #4 switches for $5 a piece. A great deal if you ask me :) What I don't know though is what to look out for when buying used switches. This is my first layout so I haven't really even handled new switched. What should I look out for and/or test to make sure they are worth getting?
Here is a picture from the ad:

Need help with powering Code 100 Peco Electrofrogs with micro switches
Prof Klyzer has suggested it is inexpensive and not difficult to power Peco Electrofrogs using a micro switch that will power and feed the correct polarity when manually throwing the points.
Where can I obtain these inexpensive micro-switches and how are they set up to change polarity and wired when the points are thrown.
Also, will this set up work if the layout is to be DCC? Does it matter?
I'm working on bench-work now but will hopefully be getting to laying code 100 staging track in the coming weeks.
