Manual install decoder in N scale problem

Hi guys I have run into an issue when installing the decoders in the small N scale locos.  You see I have no problems soldering the motor wires on but when it comes to attaching the wires to the sides of the loco (aka red and black wires) I can't seem to get the solder to stick.  Sometimes it does an others it don't.  How do you guys do this?  I saw a youtube of a guy installing a screw but that was on HO and not N so I am really puzzled.

Inexpensive PECO Turnout Control From the Fascia

The following Video shows how I control Peco Turnouts from the fascia and how I laid out a new industrial switching area.

Signals for walk around

I recently saw a layout where he had red and green led lights in the roadbed next to the switch points to indicate switch position. I am just in the thinking stage about wiring but I am considering using the short plastic dwarf signals to indicate switch position. Green for the main, yellow for the siding and the red could be used for the next block whenever my electrical gets to that point. My reason for thinking about doing it this way is just so the operator knows before he is on top of it which way the turnout is thrown. There will be only walkaround.

WOW Steam Sound Questions

Hi All:

Kickin' an idea around and am wondering about the WOW steam decoders. According to the WOW website, the info for their steam decoder boasts "all with optional articulation".  Am I correct in assuming:

* This is done digitally and NOT via cam/contacts.

* If accomplished digitally, does the articulation feature incorporate the exhaust chuffs phasing in and out of sync as is the case on an articulated locomotive?

* If any of you have WOW in an articulated steam engine, are you pleased with the effect?

Twisting main DCC buss wires?

I'm getting ready to run my main DCC buss for my TOMA module. After watching videos and reading a book on layout out wiring, some guys twist the buss wires and some do not. Larry Puckett in his book "Wiring Your Model Railroad" shows photos with twisted buss wires, but doesn't say it is necessary in the text.

Mixing Track Brands

Any issues using micro engineering turnouts with atlas flex track from an operational stand point? Should I use a certain rail joiner?

I have a bunch of atlas flex track and haven't bought the micro engineering turnouts, but I'm thinking about using them instead of getting atlas turnouts.

Enclosure for NCE USB board?

Ha anyone found or created an enclosure for the NCE USB board?

It does not seem a good idea to simply screw it to the fascia with the circuit exposed.

What DC power supplies do folks use?

Just wondering what folks use on their layouts for providing power to switch machines, DCC accessories (reversers, controllers,...) structure lighting, etc.  Do you prefer wall-warts or larger power supplies?  How beefy a supply do you prefer (obviously related to layout size and number/type of powered devices)?  Do you use any of the many computer power supplies?  eBay or other sources?  Anyone use the power supplies various DCC vendors sell for their systems for other than powering their boosters/command stations?

Digitrax DS64 output capacity

I have a Digitrax DS64 I would like to use to remotely operate a Walthers/Shinohara double crossover.  The crossover will require 4 Tortoise machines to operate.  I'd like to run all 4 Tortoise machines from the 001 output of the DS64.  Can a single output of the DS64 drive 4 switch machines at the same time with no issues?

Thanks!
