Jul 2015 Act IV - How do they make scale lumber?

Where does scale lumber come from?  Miles Hale learns about the craft of turning raw wood into model-building products at the Mt. Albert Scale Lumber factory. Watch it now on TrainMasters TV ....

Best source for Rapido reservation?

I'm looking to reserve some of Rapido's new RDCs. Who can recommend a responsible US Rapido dealer who's reliable and offers a reasonable discount? MRH supporters preferred, if possible.

TIA.

Exactrail Customer Service. . .

I wanted to say how pleased I am with Exactrail's customer service. . .

I recently ordered an SP freight/box car from Exactrail.  When I received the car, the weight was lose and shifting around inside of the car.  Since the body is sealed to the frame, it would have taken some effort to secure the weight.

I contacted Exactrail's customer service via email; they promptly responded and sent a new car out and provided a shipping label to return the original car.

Supporting small vendors in spite of themselves

I have always been willing to spend a little more to buy products from those small operations. Their products are usually unique, and they help avoid the Walthers lookalike syndrome.

Since last December I have placed orders with 4 different vendors.  Two are MRH advertisers, 2 are not. The value of each of these orders ranged from a low of $106 to a high of $149. I do not consider these amounts chump change. I paid for all off these orders by credit card.  Every order was charged upon receipt. Here’s my experience:

Frank Titman's Passing

I just heard the sad news that Frank Titman has passed away. He was well known, not only by his fellow S scalers, but within the entire model railroading hobby. He was instrumental in preserving S scale during the rough times we had in the 60's and 70's when the scale came close to perishing.

Model Railroader Video Plus--How long is their average video?

Now that it's been around for a while I thought I might reconsider it but then realized I have no idea how much information I'd get out of any one video.  One crude (and perhaps less than perfect) measure of that would be to consider their length.  Can't see much value if each is only a few minutes long...  For those who may have access to it, what is your impression at this point and what is the approximate length they shoot for?

It's official, Carstens has closed their doors

Just received an email from the PNR of NMRA.org:

"Carstens Closing

I have received information from a well respected member of the model railroad publishing field that Carstens, Inc is closing business this week. This brings to the end the publication of Railroad Model Craftsman Magazine, one of the oldest general publications in the hobby field.

The hobby will miss the information published in RMC and the overall support of our hobby from Carstens.
