Having passed through Field many times in both directions, I have seen the Spiral Tunnels a lot. When I was younger, I used to ride my motorcycle out to the coast and I always stopped at the lookout. Many times I sat and not seen anything other than fantastic scenery and occasional wildlife, but many times I caught the gold ring and met trains easing their way, through the upper loops and down through the lower tunnel. It is a perfect catch to hear a train approach out of the upper tunnel above your head and, listening to its movement as it labours its way downhill to the lower tunnels and Field, and to watch as its tail disappears in one place while its nose pops out another. Amazing!
