30 || Do Not Do What I Did || How I Bricked My New Digitrax DT602D Throttle

Do not do what I did. A short story on how I bricked my new Digitrax DT602D throttle.
My biggest issue with the new Digitrax throttle was that it beeped when the LCD went to sleep. So I was very excited when I heard that Digitrax released a new firmware update that would disable the beeping.

The music is very annoying while trying to listen to the comment. Wish you YouTube'rs would stop with the music.
Guess you did not read the DT-402 update Instructions or the Digitrax Device Firmware Update Instructions off the Digitrax DOWNLOAD web site. It clearly states PR3 (or PR4). Using anything other is a roll of dice.
You are even lucky you did not brick your Digikeijs System doing this. I blew a perfectly operational UR91 by applying the UR92 firmware to it by accident using a PR3 and DigiIPL.
But I agree, Digitrax could have made this much more clear. They have issued a new KB1063 regarding this.

In the link you provided,
In the link you provided, which I read before I tried to update, it states "on a LocoNet system" "such as MS100, PR3, PR4 etc.". It did not state only on a Digitrax system and that testing with LocoBuffer and JMRI were not reliable.
So I thought I would give it a try.
As for the music, this is the first video I got comments on about the music. Would you prefer the music lower, or no music at all? I was including music because I thought viewers wanted it, but it is much easier for me to exclude it all together.
Thanks, Heath

Heath,
Marc is right. The music is crazy annoying.

Sorry, but I stopped
Sorry, but I stopped listening, as I typically do with any how-to video, when the music came in. There's really no need for a music bed in a how-to video while someone is speaking. It's a distraction.
Consider this, in high school, college or tech school, was there music playing in the background during lectures or instruction time? Course not.
Hope you get your throttle issue resolved.
Video Intro & background Music to loud
I have to agree with "caniac & "P51"
I would suggest you turn the music down 50% then once someone starts talking fade it out quickly.
I get tired of straining to hear the narrator and or host presenting information and training Videos with over bearing music. Really if I want music there is ton on the internet and I don't have to strain to hear any naration thank you.

I'll join the additiona several comments. I'll add to it. I hate loud annoying music on Youtube videos - and immediately turn the sound off or skip ahead to get to talking for info if need be.
As for viewers wanting music. Think of it this way, people have diffferent tastes and don't all agree one what types. At least if it's low, it's going to annoy people less if they don't like it.

That is just the point. Digitrax recommends you use Digitrax hardware. Digikeijs is not Digitrax hardware. Locobuffer is not Digitrax hardware. JMRI is not Digitrax software. PR4 is Digitrax, DigiIPL is Digitrax software.

I, my mistake, ran the DigiIPL (via PR3) and UR92 firmware update against a UR91. Via Loconet, It bricked the UR91 ???. I sent it (UR91) to Digitrax and they returned it stating un-repairable thow they did replace the main chip on it.
As to the music, if it adds nothing, don't do it. We are not talking 'Gone With the wind' and you are not trying to ' set a mood '.

background music in YouTube videos
No music at all, PLEASE! Zilch, nada and nyet to the music in videos that are not primarily music videos!
Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you SHOULD do it.
Best music rule of thumb
Music works best as a lead-in and to signal a wrap up.
In the middle of the video, only use music if it enhances the point you're trying to make ... like we will use corny music when we're about to make a boo-boo. Or we will use 1950s music when we're showing a prototype video from the 50s to add to the mood.
But in all cases, if there's talking, I try to keep the music -16DB to -18DB.
One trick is to listen to the segment with your eyes closed and see if you can hear every word clearly. If not, drop the music another -2DB and try again.

Good info but...
Appreciate you taking the time to share this information, but have to agree with others re the music, in this case less is more.
