Most wiring I am familiar with for electrical uses copper, not brass. Brass is rather hard/stiff and I would not try using "quick connect" devices on brass wire. If the wire is truly brass, then I would recommend a solder connection.

The options list in an electronics supply catalog are rather expansive. Or swing by your local flavor of Radio-Shack or automotive supply house. There is some sort of suitable connection. Oh and your wire is most likely copper, which to even marginally color blind people like myself might as well be bronze, brass etc. They all *look* the same to me, but yeah copper bends easier.

How about RCA/Phono plugs/jacks? I know I have so many unused stereo cables lying around I've started using them for quick disconnects. And the jacks come in panel-mount, surface-mount and inline formats. https://www.google.com/search?q=rca+jacks

Alternatively the standard stereo phone plug/jack, from headphones to earbuds. Come in mono (2 wire) and stereo (3 wire). http://www.google.com/search?q=stereo+phone+jacks

Both work quite well and you don't need any specialized equipment like power-poles or telephone-wire.

Radio Shacks are probably close to you, as well as other electronic outlets.

If I am not mistaken don't stereo phono plugs momentarily short during connect/disconnect? I may be all wet with this one but worth checking.

You might be right about the brief shorting Alan.

Make sure the exposed male plugs are on the non powered portion when unplugged so they can not short against anything.

Coaxial power plugs like what come on a lot of wall warts would be a better choice in my mind.

what about the connectors for cat 5 or cat 6. these are already for 22awg wire and have an ampacity of 3 amps

yes alan is correct. phono plugs do short before making final contact. this is why you NEVER see a real musician plug or unplug from an amp with the power on

But it requires a special crimper to apply the 8 pin RJ-45 connectors.

There is also a small learning curve to installing the connector, orienting the wires so they don't crossover and ensuring good conductivity on all pins.

The connectors are made for either solid core wire or soft core more flexible network wire so be sure to get the right ones for the wire being used.

The solid core wire will take far less flexing than the soft core stranded wire, but I feel soft cables are the more difficult to make yourself.
