Staging

I thought I'd make a new blog entry on D&M staging areas. I cleaned this up a little from the original post to make it more attractive. The D&M interchanges with the MILW, CNW and BN. Here is a shot of the layout side of the BN interchange at Aberdeen Jct.

Staging
OK, so here's some pictures of my staging. Here is where the MILW comes into Caledonia. The staging track holds about 4 cars, an engine and caboose.
Here is the other side of the end backdrop at Caledonia. This is the MILW Staging track.
Here is Aberdeen Jct. The D&M crosses a BN branchline here, and the transfer track holds about 4 cars.
Here is the backside of the backdrop at Aberdeen Jct. This is the BN staging side, the rerailer helps set the cars on.
Here is the shelf adjacent to the BN staging track. There is room for a dozen or so cars here. Note the predominance of BN and predecessor cars.
This is the south end of the D&M,The track continuing through the backdrop is the C&NW connection to points south. Note how the track loops to the left. It will make a 180 degree turn and go behind the backdrop across the aisle.
Here is the C&NW staging. The siding is for the C&NW, the main is the hidden continuous run connection. The wide shelf allows me to store some cars here. There is also a shelf below this where I store most of my cars. It already is too small. Also, the siding here simulates the state hospital siding which gets coal for the powerhouse. the D&M switches this even though the switch is off the C&NW south of Caledonia.
Here is the shelf below the C&NW staging track. Double stacked account too many cars.
Here is a picture which I hope explains the relationship of everything here. Caledonia is on the left, and the C&NW leaves at lower left and circles around at the bottom and goes behind the backdrop on the right. That is Elgin on the scenicked side of the backdrop. You can just see the shelf below the C&NW. The MILW follows the left wall through the backdrop at left, out of picture. Note the fences on the 180 loop, just in case I wreck here.
.
Its not pretty, but it gives me a place to stage trains and store equipment. Each interchange has its own track off layout.
Coal siding for a State Hospital, sounds familure.
There was a siding like that near my old stomping grounds off the Erie RR.

I know, its a coincidence
But, it really is patterned after the state hospital at Jamestown, ND which was served by the Midland Continental. I need a place to send all those PRR and PC hoppers!

D&M
Continues to amaze me....I am glad you were able to get the continuous run and staging...

One never has too many cars
One never has too many cars, one has not enough tracks.
