Problems accessing the issue? Follow these troubleshooting steps ...

Important Note:
All modern HTML5 compliant browsers automatically save the PDF to your device when you click the link. However, in the case of Internet Explorer (PC) or older versions of Safari (Mac), you need to do the following to get the PDF to download instead of display in the browser.

INTERNET EXPLORER USERS (PC): Please right click and select "Save target as"  to save the PDF directly to your device instead of opening it in your browser.
SAFARI USERS (Mac): Please hold down the OPTION key when clicking to force Safari to download the PDF instead of display it in the browser. However, as of Safari 10.1 (released Mar 26, 2017), Safari DOES support the download attribute via a direct click.

For Peter (herronp)

Peter--try this:

Try playing around with the settings using the little gear icon from the pull down menu:

Once you click on the gear, you'll get a box with different settings that allow you to adjust the way the content looks in your browser window.  Mess around with the top two settings: "custom zoom" and "zoom to":

I'm using Safari as my browser, but I bet Firefox will give you the same options.

Maybe check website actions w/other versions of Safari?

Hey guys,

On my Mac, running version Version 11.0 (11604.1.38.1.7) of Safari, if I Option-click on the download link, the PDF opens in the existing window, but won't download until you "Save as..."

Now if I Control-click on that link, it will open a dialog box that allows you to select where on your Mac's drive you want to save the PDF, and once you click OK, Safari will download the file.

Maybe your version of Safari is in need of updating to a current version (well, my Mac is still running only El Capitan (10.11.6), so it's not the most current in all respects...)?

Oh - thanks for the Kadee e-newsletter link to sign up - when I checked my last email from Kadee, it was from an old Gmail account which I can't get to anymore.

@BillMichaels, I will try that...........

Thanks so much for the tip.

One of the reasons I brought it up is that I have not changed a thing in my laptop (I really don't know how as I use the computer as a tool-it's not a hobby to me) and these issues started probably 3 month ago.  I know those dreaded Windows "updates" can change things but at least with 10 I don't have to reset it to a prior date to get it to work again like I had to with the prior OS (7??), so I'm not sure they had an effect.

I also found this happened, maybe August -September . However I had occasion to review and change my addy due to SPAM SPOOFING emails for a while without abate.

Noticing that I had not received the weekly emails from MRH, came here in October and downloaded all 3 months. And added my new email alias.

FWIW-  what I'm explaining is I may have caused a bounce (not recorded tho) but rarely logon to do so manually.

BTW persistent logon doesn't work on my VDSL/ MacBook/ OS12x FFox56. Is ad-tracker OpenX required for this to function? It is the only code I have blocked on site.

cheers davew

>>Maybe your version of Safari is in need of updating to a current version

The least likely/ plausible need as the modfiers you describe have been the standard functionality of Macs since System6 days, 20-odd years ago. Your references are a decision point- Am I reading on screen (broweser changes) or downloading from link (read off-line) at leisure.

In capped interent/ broadband rated areas it is better to d/l copy once and read off-line, than return to online reading (caching a 100mb doc doesnt always happen well).

The OP using Win10x should check what programme is being used to open pdfs, what the 'settings/ preferences/ other nomenclature' are for window display/ size etc. and adjust accordingly once. They should be fixed and consistent after that. Corrollary- if you have multiple documents to read formatted multiple ways (and that comes down to 'amateur' publishing/ ignorance- not a problem here) - then likely there will be variation every time. Or as we know Win10 doesn't always retain data it is supposed to.

YMMV, etc. regards davew

*Edit minor point.

Notifications are turned on for you - you should be getting our emails (one went out today that you may have gotten).

I don't know that OpenX would be required to maintain login (my Firefox browser seems to do so without issues) but we do ask that you not use ad blocking software on the MRH website. Ads are how we pay for the magazine after all.

Peter, This is the browser

Peter,

This is the browser displaying your PDF. I have the same in Edge. It's a great idea but the big +/- buttons in the way are annoying among other things.

What I have done is use a third-party Windows 10 applet which is available on the Windows Store.

Look for Xodo

Their website is: http://www.xodo.com/

It's a lot more complex for what you or I would use it for, but it has nice features as in keeping the recently opened documents available and access to the last read pages. I discovered it when looking for an alternate to display sheet music. The browser and Adobe Reader didn't always resize or display the complete page well. With Xodo I am able to display both pages easily side-by-side easily, and quickly change pages.

Hope this helps.
