There seems to be a problem with the embedded, landscape version of the Oct issue. It gets halfway through the download and closes Safari. (Just goes to desktop). I've made repeated attempts from main site and one from mirror site. iOS7 on iPad2. Smells like corrupt file behaviour.

The Embedded edition is not recommended on a tablet or phone. It's primarily a PC format. I don't know of any PDF viewers on a tablet or phone that will deal with Embedded media correctly inside a PDF.

Stick to the Standard Edition on mobile devices and Macs.

Once we can get the HTML5 version perfected, we will have an Embedded edition that works on all devices, but we're still working out some kinks yet.

The same happens with the Standard edition on my iPad.

We've also seen IOS 7 is causing some problems - this wouldn't happen to be iPads running IOS7, would it?

Since Gen2, the image quality of the two editions is the same. The only difference now between the editions is the embedded media. Otherwise, they're identical.

We now do all images at 150 DPI to enable up to 200% zooming and still retaining detail. If we can get images large enough from the author, they will hold up at 200%. Sometimes the author doesn't have any better images, so we take what we can get.

But the push is to keep improving image quality. In our eBooks, we do 300 DPI on images, which allows up to 400% zoom - on prototype photos this makes it possible for you to really study the details, and is a benefit you don't get from print.

Standard edition working just fine on my iOS 7 iPad using Good Reader.

I read it on my iPad 2 with iOS 7 in iBooks. No problems with the standard edition.

I use "Air Sharing" on the iPad and it works great for the embedded PDF files.  You download to your computer and setup sharing in Air Share and download to the iPad.  I use it mostly for reading PDF manuals for machine repair (printers, computers, copiers).
