Some notes about the Demo Sample issue:

  • When you first open the magazine PDF file, it will ask if you want the document to go full screen - say yes to get the best reading experience.
  • Ads will not play by themselves, so as to not be too annoying. If you want an ad to play, click on it. (We'll add a little icon in the real magazine to indicate when an ad is "playable").
  • When you first click on an ad or other playable media, Adobe Reader may ask you if you trust this media and will allow it to play - say yes to have the media play.
  • The NCE PowerCab mock advertisement includes a 3D virtual reality image that you can spin with the mouse. Click on it and say yes that you trust this media to play.
  • Most of the content in this demo issue is material about or from Charlie Comstock. Charlie's local to the MRH offices, so it was very easy to work with him to get some finished material to show. We like Charlie, but never fear - we will be covering many other topics!
  • Remember, you MUST download and install Adobe Reader 9. The interactive content in this issue will not work properly on any earlier version!

This is a very embryonic version of the eventual full January 2009 issue. Much of the eventual features, like mute audio for the entire magazine, are missing right now.

As a brand new rich media magazine using the latest-and-greatest technology, I'm expecting there will be some people who have problems viewing the issue. Just let us know what your problem is and we'll see if we can resolve it.

Please use this comments area to post what you think of the sample demo.

Ah, okay

Okay, Chris ... got it.

In Adobe Reader 9, go to Edit > preferences ... > Internet

Then uncheck the Display PDF in browser box.

Good suggestion!

PDF download ad-on

I am using the PDF Download for my downloads with FireFox 3. Work most of the time, but some websites still opens  directely in the browserwindow.

Maybe this Chris' suggestion is better?

magazine

I have downloaded the zip file and the PDF file directly.  Pages three, five, eight and nine have large  dark areas where there is printing which is unreadable.  I downloaded this sample to the printer last week and left the room.

I came back to four black, unreadable pages.  What Am I doing wrong?

Here's your problem

The pages you list have Flash video content that can only play in Adobe reader 9.

You need to also make sure you have the latest Flash player.

If you want to see what the magazine is supposed to look like, you can watch this video.
