Download demo sample issue!

Pick one of the following download options (option 1 recommended):

Download option 1: Download 10-page sample issue (zip file, 5.75 MB)

... or ...

Download option 2: Download 10-page sample issue (pdf file, 6.55 MB)

Some notes about the Demo Sample issue:

  • When you first open the magazine PDF file, it will ask if you want the document to go full screen - say yes to get the best reading experience.
  • Ads will not play by themselves, so as to not be too annoying. If you want an ad to play, click on it. (We'll add a little icon in the real magazine to indicate when an ad is "playable").
  • When you first click on an ad or other playable media, Adobe Reader may ask you if you trust this media and will allow it to play - say yes to have the media play.
  • The NCE PowerCab mock advertisement includes a 3D virtual reality image that you can spin with the mouse. Click on it and say yes that you trust this media to play.
  • Most of the content in this demo issue is material about or from Charlie Comstock. Charlie's local to the MRH offices, so it was very easy to work with him to get some finished material to show. We like Charlie, but never fear - we will be covering many other topics!
  • Remember, you MUST download and install Adobe Reader 9. The interactive content in this issue will not work properly on any earlier version!

This is a very embryonic version of the eventual full January 2009 issue. Much of the eventual features, like mute audio for the entire magazine, are missing right now.

As a brand new rich media magazine using the latest-and-greatest technology, I'm expecting there will be some people who have problems viewing the issue. Just let us know what your problem is and we'll see if we can resolve it.

Please use this comments area to post what you think of the sample demo.

I like it!  Looks like info that will be very informative and useful. I'm looking forward to it.  Best of luck to you for the ongoing success of your venture!

a folder option

Hello Joe;

You might consider a download list with instructions as a last resort method.  I would not put it on the download page but rather on a troubleshooting page and well noted as a last resort.  I am on Mac Intel 10.5 and do not know if the Adobe rich option will even work for me considering their Flash problems on Mac Intel.  That said it may well be an excellent option for most people.    I still think the Zip Folder download is the most universal.  However, you might consider offering a .dmg for Mac users.  And maybe even an image file that would be burnable as is for every one, I for one and some others I am sure can even "play" or mount the image file as if it were a disk.

Sorry for the long make-work comment,

Problem with download

When I attempt to download the demo sample issue, I get a dialog box that states " corrupted or invalid file"

Problem with download fixed

There were additional updates that I had to download for Adobe 9. I also saved the Zip file to a folder then unzipped it, then viewed with the reader. I tryed to view the zipped file directly, Duh! I'll learn someday. I look forward to your premiere issue.

Glad to hear it work for you

Glad to hear you got it working ... thanks for the details of the issue and solution. That will help others who may be having a problem.

We've decided to provide the magazine in both zip and pdf form, so you can take your pick. The PDF approach will let you begin reading it online almost immediately, and it will download as you go. The zip version will have to be completely downloaded and then unzipped to be read.

The first issue is shaping up nicely, and we've also got some cool material in the works for issues 2 and beyond as well!

Sample Issue

Great work Joe, this project look like a WINNER!!!  I cannot wait to see the full version. This will be a GREAT help to those of us that are getting back into the hobby after years of dreaming and no place to build. This format does make for better reading than the other online magazines I have used in the past and the ability to be interactive is even better. Thanks for all the effort you are putting into this.

Works for me as well

It is beautiful work Joe and I can't wait until January to see the full "enchilada". I enjoyed what I read and found it easy to navigate.....BTW, I'm running FF3.2 with Adobe 8 in Ubuntu and I had no problems whatsoever.

Works for me too.

Downloaded without a hitch, though I did notice that FF3 (Windows XP Media) could not determine the file size. Played fine in Acrobat 8.1 even though I got warning messages saying it wouldn't! Like others, I cannot wait to see the first issue even though I don't have any particular interest in US outline modelling (I do German Ep1 thru 4).

Best of luck with the magazine, may it go from strength to strength.

Chris.
