Workin' on the layout - the saga continues (building turnouts using CVT ties)

I've been building "poor man's jig" turnouts all summer and now I'm going to replace all the commercial turnouts on the "Eugene end" of staging tomorrow.

My poor man's jig turnouts use Central Valley turnout (CVT) ties and some Fast Track filing jigs to make quick work out of building a turnout. I like the CVT ties because they're inexpensive ($8 each) and they have slots for the rails - so you just drop the rails in place and you get a properly gauged turnout.

It's Friday, September 4, 2009 and it is a nice day

The weather is typical for September and it is in the mid 60s and will probably end in the high 70s. No rain is predicted but we always know the US Weather Bureau is a non-prophet organization.

Its been a while

Well, I knew it had been a while since my last blog, but its been almost 3 months!!  I guess its mostly because I haven't had much to report.  Summer has been busy and refreshing, but now its time to get back to business with the kids in school.

Just Took a Look at the Who's New Section...

I just took a look at the Who's New section and noticed that member number 9,586 has just made his appearance. I wonder if Joe has something special planned for member number 10,000?

September 2nd, 2009- Temp in Layout room 1 a cool 70 Degrees.

It's still September 1 but I found a new site that folks might find interesting

This afternoon I received an email from a gentleman from this website. He is a member of this site so I won't use his name but he also models NY Harbor railroads. He provided some information including a website URL that describes the kind of railroading that could be found on Manhattan Island up until about 1970. At least three of the major railroads once had a nuber of railyards served by car floats located at various places on the water front of the West Side.

September 1 and it feels more like October or November

It was 59 this morning as I got into my car. At least thats what the temperature gauge read. But that was at 6 AM. It's now 7:25 and it is only a little bit warmer. I am not ready for this kind of weather but I'll del with it like everything that gets thrown in my direction.
