Absolutely Brilliant

Model Railroad Hobbyist just keeps getting better and better. The Servo article, the Sergents article and Tims track painting were just what I needed. This has to be the best magazine I have read for a long time. Keep up the great work.

Really Really Great work !!

The staff at MRH has another winner!!!

I haven't finished reading the whole Issue but I'm past the half way point and I really liked being able to upload from my main computer to my notebook and sit out under My big Maple tree in the back yard and read it. That was until I was interrupted by all my friends wanting me to start the Bar-B-Q. well I'm on vacation until July 13th so I have time to read and comment on everything. I can say I watched all the videos first sure beets just looking at 1 or 2 pictures in the paper backs.

Very Good Magazine, But Custom Downloader Not Useable

Your online Magazine is VERY GOOD!  Please keep up the good work.

For some reason though you chose to make the download process for theJuly 2009 (Issue 3) only available via your own custom downloader which causes BIG probelms.  Why not just let us download the PDF files the way we do all other PDF's on the Internet?

Many of us are retired and only have dial-up connections ecause we are on social security.  You may not realize it, but your custom downloader program dows not allow for restarts and users of dial-up can rarely let our computers and home telephones be tied up for four hours to download one issue of your great magazine.

Yes, we ARE only downloading the reduce content (smaller PDF files - e.g. 16MB) rather than the larger PDF files (e.g. 160MB) -- but even 16MB files can tke several hours over dial-up phone lines!

Our dial-up ISP's knock us off after an hour or so of "inactivity" (meaning downloading with no browser activity).

We can use our download manager programs to download other PDF files on the Internet and our download manager pograms allow us to restart a download and pick up where the download left off -- your custom downloader does not!!  :-(

Again, you have a very good magazine.  Keep up the good work.  But please do not lock out your dial-up readers (and customers of your sponsors) by forcing them to use your custom download program that does not allow restarts that pick up where they left off -- meaning preventig them from being able to download your product.  You did not restrict the other issues (Issues 1,2, and 4),why not correct the download process for issue #3 as well and just let us download it wth our download managers?

Thank you very much!

(Keep up the good work!)

Right Click downloads

Joshua,

Easy, no need to get upset. :o)

Joe and the team are working on making the download process as simple as possible for EVERYONE.  The download applet was required by those who had issues with right clicking to download.  The fact that some folks need to be able to right click to download has been noted and action is being taken to address that issue.

You can download Issues 1-3 from the link below. *** MODERATOR EDIT***

Legacy Downloads for issues 1-3

***MODERATOR EDIT - OP was asking about legacy downloads for Issue 3***

Thanks moderator...I could not find the legacy downloads for issues 1 - 3 otherwise I would have provided the link for that.

Model Railroad Beefed Up

I just grabbed a copy from my dad's old archives and let me tell you that I will resume reading Model Railroad because it gives aspiring industrial engineers like me ideas on how to pro-create trains into bigger and more convenient modes of transportation. Keep publishing neat and useful articles. Cheers!

My dad got me into it as well.  I gave him a 40 year old set during my groom wedding speech it really choked me up.

And is'nt it incredible to get videos as part of the magazine.  I'm getting an ipad soon and I'm going to go through all these back issues and watch them again.

Dial up is less than 7% of the US public now

As of last count, less than 7% of the US public are now on dial-up.

The magazine is free so go to the public library and download it - or ask a friend or relative who has a fast internet connection to download it for you every month.

Or read the online version - you don't have to download it at all - but you will need to be patient with the page loads on dial up.

My only regret is that we can't actually apply a boot to their bottom side!  Perhaps this would discourage them if it was physically painful
